I play BA and am having some problems facing my freinds Lost and the Dammed. More specificly i am having problems with his basilisk and leman russ. These two tanks have single handedly destroyed half my army before he assults with his korn berzerkers. I have no defense against them and would like some help! pleese! (if your not familiar with the lost and the dammed, they get everything IG gets[minus the new tanks] plus all of the chaos PLUS mutants. they are quite a problem)
Well... lost and the damned is not a legal list anymore. Especially if he is using the new chaos codex.
Despite this, if you are okay with him playing it, the best thing you can do is take advantage of the new editions cover saves. I play Defilers pretty often and am finding it harder to use ordnance as effectively with the ease of getting cover saves in 5th.
Also, with you assault marines try and deny the berserkers the charge, and if you can get multiple friendly units in them at once. Taking away their furious charge is the biggest deal.
So, hide you units as best as you can, and control the combat. It may take most patience, but see how it plays, and you may be rewarded.
Air Calv Guard: 3 - 2 - 1
Word Bearers: 23 - 9 - 4
Try Attack Bikes with multi-meltas. They can get up the field quick and take out a basilisk and leman russ, plus they are not too many points...
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Thanks ill try that. cant belive i didnt think of that! The only problem is my freind also uses massive amounts of IG to defend them and just has his 20 man squad of CSM and his khorn berzerkers charge out. Would deep striking termies or assult SM work?
double.bind - I'd shelved my LatD project because I believed as you stated initially. I've had pointed out to me on several forums that this is not exactly true. While the list is no longer supported by GW and isn't included in any of their official tournements, they haven't officially stated that this codex is dead. It's more in the realm of Space Wolves (until the new 'dex arrives); it's an old codex in need of updating. Whether they actually do is another issue entirely regardless of the fact that this codex describes 90% of Chaos armies according to the fluff. If your group will allow it, great.
The Bassie and LR are the only heavy hitters in this list now that the Defiler has been changed radically. If he's going to have first turn, you need to have stuff hidden as well as possible and accept that two units are probably in big trouble on the first turn. Do not have your boys clumped together any more than necessary so that when a pancake hits you can minimize the damage. As 5th edition is new, make sure that no one is forgetting the BS modifications to shooting these pancakes o' doom. Direct fire gets to subtract the BS from the deviation distance rolled but this should be a 2 or 3 (I forget which for this army) so deviation can be pretty substantial. Don't clump units close together to avoid this problem. Indirect fire gets no adjustment so full deviation. Again, don't clump your units too close together.
These two vehicles are your primary target on your turn. The Bassie is paper thin so whack it with a something long range until it's dead. A dev squard will have to have been in the open to have LOS so probably is dead by now if you tried this. A LS with an AssCan or MM if lucky can have a shot on turn 1 but should be able to get a shot by turn 2. LR or Predators should be able to move out and get a shot on turn one. Drop pod a squad with a melta gun within range of the offending tank. Attack bikes with MM. Assault squads with MG and PF. LR with Assault termies. DSing assault termies. There are lots of ways to deal with these beasties. The Leman Russ is a tougher nut to crack but add scouts on a scout move and you have the possibility of a rear armor shot.
Anyone who can't hurt these two vehicles should be pounding what you find the next most objectionable. The berserkers shouldn't get to your boys unless he has them well screened.
Yes, there are female marines and my Sunhawks will let you know in a major way.
Not all the Emperors Children turned coat. We will redeem our name.
