You asked for it, I haven't played any games yet with it, so its mostly from stats for now, once i get games in It'll evolve to a full blown tactica.
“And They Shall Know No Fear”
Basically the same as in 4th. Will be useful for after Combat Tactics and as the same way in 4th.
Combat Tactics should be used sparingly I think, as it can help or hinder your army in its own different ways. Use in combination with “And They Shall Know No Fear”.
Same as Dark Angels, should be great for scoring and objectives, I think Sternguard will be fun in use with this, set the up in firing lanes and shoot away. Drop Pods and Combat Squads will be used interestingly I think, as the squad chooses to separate as it is drop podded in.
On a different note, Space Marines only receive Boltgun, Nades and Bolt Pistols and no Chainsword, so no ubergrit for us. Rites of Battle is gone only on Cato Sicarius now.
This part of the tactica contains information around the general Wargear that most characters and/or sergeants can get. Specialized Wargear will be under that unit’s entry in this tactica.
Combat Shields and Storm Shields
Combat Shields only offers a 6+ Invul now while the Storm Shield offers a 3+ Invul. I recommend the Storm Shield for the better save, This will be great for Assault Terminators
This now gives a small BS boost to one member of a squad. Not sure I will use this.
This is about all the general Wargear changes in the new codex.
Now onto the Overview of the army.
Overview of Army
With points to rival a Land Raider, He is one beast of a Marine, comes in power armour to start with and you have to pay for his Termie armour but this includes a free tele homer. His rules seem great, enabling passing and failing of morale checks for all squads with combat tactics. Probably best to put him in Termie Armour in a LR with a squad of Assault Termies.
Only character with Rites of Battle now. He has FNP Armour, gives a special rule (from a selection) from the Main Rulebook to one tactical squad, hit a single instant death CC and can seize initative with a reroll if he wants. Seems like GW wants more Ultramarine players, doesn’t it?
Quick list for beginners to Marines, so have a look at it.ANd I'll have more for this later.
i tried calgar in 5th and he is a monster. held back 3 squads in cc for 2 turns. I dont like to give him termie armor, but a honor guard with relic blades and a rhino/razorback. this way, i dont have to take an overly expensive tank that will draw a lot of fire. Also, you can easily hide a razorback behind rhinos and preds, while a land raider cant. Don't forget to mention Calgar has 4 wounds and Eternal Warrior! Another good HQ choice is a chapter master with relic blade and storm shield. This HQ will seriously mess other hq's up. Striking at initiative with I6 is pretty scary, let alone a 3+ invuln against any power or low ap attacks back at him.
Don't forget to mention the orbital bombardment XD
