Im thinking of making a 200 point Raven Guard army then making a 1000 point imperial guard army to go with it
My Space marines would do the assaulting and the imperial guard will shoot behind the lines
is it a good idea?
As far as I am aware, its one or the other I'm afraid. You can't mix and match Marines and Guard, You'll have to make the most of one of the two...
i know that space marines are aloud to take allies, i.e Grey Knight termy squad in a Ultramarines army. but im not sure if the imperial guard have the same type of rule, so maybe you could make the raven guard army with imperial allies =) but im not too sure so best of luck hope all works out :]

Once a Marine, always a Marine.
uh, when everything is taken into account, marines are better than guard at shooting (BS, Morale, Armor). Why take something inferior when you have perfectly good marines to do the job?
