Hey I've just ordered the Helios pattern landraider and I wanted know what you loyalist guys think of it
It's horrible. You should never have ordered it. Send it to me right away and I'll make sure you don't regret having one.
Actually, like any task specific weapon system, it can either win the day or go down in flames. It's a lot of points in one target and I hate to do that. However, it is one tough target. But if a Dark Lance pops your hull on the first turn, you won't be very happy.
My opinion; I don't like to risk so much in one package, but I feel the same way about all the Land Raiders. I do field a Crusader now and then just for the coolness factor.
Who ever came up with the helios must be in a real position of power. Any other army could never field something horrific. The sheer amount of firepower is rediculous. I still really like it, though. I personally would rather see a different type of launcher than a standard whirlwind mount, like putting a vertical launch tubes in the hull itself. No change in rules I mean, just location and type of launcher.
*Fart* "Keep talking sir, we'll find you!"
You, my friend, are a GENIUS! That would look awsome.Originally posted by panzerjeager@Jun 16 2004, 10:35

I kind of agree that the Whirlwind launcher looks a bit...odd for my tastes on top of the Land Raider. But then if it fits your tastes, more power to you.
I have always been confused, though, about what battlefield role the Helios is supposed to fill. As artillery the armor and Lascannons are wasted. As an assault transport/tank (like regular Land Raiders) the Whirlwind launcher is a bit wasted. As a battle tank...no...Land Raiders are not battle tanks. I would have rather seen the turret be some sort of anti-aircraft weapon system for keeping enemy aircraft off of advancing columns of Land Raiders.
However, if you have a role for it (or just want to have some fun with it), it should be interesting to use.
"Don't Delay-The best is the enemy of the good. By this I mean that a good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next week. War is a very simple thing, and the determining characteristics are self-confidence, speed, and audacity. None of these things can ever be perfect, but they can be good."
-General George S. Patton, Jr.
Flexibility is the Helios's thang, WW launcher for hordes, Lascannons for big nasties
