I was just looking through my friends Necron codex, and noticed that the necrons have only one weapon with ap2, being the heavy gauss cannon weilded by the hevy destroyers.
Now, till this point i wasn't sure whether deep striking my Grandmaster and retinue practically in front of his army was a good idea, but with only heavy destroyers able to negate their armour save, this is a great plan. even the almighty monolith only has an ap3 weapon.
So basically i did a run through of a likely necron set-up, deep striking a grand master and full retinue right in front of his army. Only 2 died from the firing of his entire army! allowing me to waltz into h2h to start carving up his warriors.
The only problem that might happen is the nightbringer, he definately poses a problem, but if i can avoid him then maybe it'll work out.
What do u guys think?
p.s. sorry if this oh-so-new revalation is completely common knowledge
I think you better replay that scenario again. I play necrons and trust me, all that strategy would do is cost you a lot of points
Blood for the blood god!
Don't count on the lack of high AP weaponry. Heck, I've lost entire units of GK to lasguns before.
Also, don't deepstrike JUST a GM & retinue. Plant 2-3 FAGK units in there as well. And don't just pop up in front of him! Go behind, or to the sides, somewhere that isn't targetted by every gun he has!
Against the C'Tan, well, lots of psycannons!
