Just curious what y'all think of this setup.
Chapter master's primary foucus CC retinue has all power weapons and Fists
Dual lightning claws
thats the core of it anyway. any add ons or other advice is welcomed.
Looks good. Expensive, but nice.
What size army are you playing this fella with?
Roughly 1500 to 2000 pt army depending on the game
Definetely nasty. Trouble could be getting them to the fight. A landraider is good, but expensive. Rhinos are decent. Drop pods can be good, but not alone. If you drop them in a lone pod they will get blasted to smithereens before they can move away from the vehicle. If they go walking/running across the table, I would recommend hiding them behind a tac squad so they can get a cover save as they advance.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Thanks for the help and i've had some bad luck with rhinos lately so a tac squad will work nicely. espically with the true grit ability of my chapter.
What chapter are you playing?I personally would use the land raider for a 2000 point game.Especially because of its high AC Load it up with a sternguard retinue for him to make it a really bad ass squad
ITs a divergent off of DarkAngels that foucuses more on cc, but stil very shooty. ANd a land raider is elusive right now haven't bought one yet. And the sterngaurd i heard was more points than its worth, though i haven't actually seen the new codex yet.
4 more days though

that set-up looks good, in my opinioni think you're thinking of the vanguard vets, sternguards are meant to be exceptionally effective. although i, too, have, as of yet, not seen the new SM Codex. And the sterngaurd i heard was more points than its worth
It really depends on the way that you are basing the unit sternguard are meant for shooting and Vanguard for the Melee' of things. Both units are exceptional in there fields but they are both moderate in the other even for there high point cost. They could easily earn it back though so its all good.
yeah, Ordo, i know what you mean about them being all-round good troops, then as a bonus being even better at melee or fire fights.
but i've heard that when you take a well equiped van squad, its equal in points value to two normal assault squads or a terminator squad (the former of the two gives twice as many bodies, while the latter gives better armour save, and, in some cases, equal weaponry).
but, having said that, i must concede that i have yet to play test such squads, so the afore mentioned pros and cons are not of firsthand experiences. merely rumour.
have you played with them Ordo? if so, i would love to hear you advice.
