I'm in a 4way Carnage Game this weekend (1k points each) and I'm using my Black Templar army. Most likely the armies I'll be facing will be Daemonhunters, and 2 out of the 3 Nids, Orks, Eldar. Carnage is a 4 way object in the middle game where whoever is closer at the end wins.
Due to the rules, I think Black Templar will be great since CC is what you want, essentially zerg the objective (with Nids and Orks and DH... lovely).
Here is proposed army:
100 - Emperor's Champion (Uphold the honor)
125 - Master of Sanctity (plasma pistol)
125 - Dreadnought (missile launcher and autocannon)
230 - Squad 1 (10 initiates, 6 scouts, 1 power weapon)
112 - Squad 2 (6 initiates, 1 missile launcher, 1 plasma gun)
112 - Squad 3 (6 initiates, 1 missile launcher, 1 plasma gun)
196 - Assault Squad (8 initiates, 1 power fist, 1 plasma pistol)
My basic strategy was going to be throw the chaplain with squad 1, have them rush the objective as a spearhead. Get squad 2-3 to hold the flanks with firepower. Dread was going to pick out big targets that would threaten the spearhead. Then depending whats next to me, have my Emperors Champion cover another flank. Or it it's more useful, run over the objective and tie someone up on the other side.
Anyone let me know if this seems reasonable... or ridiculous.
*note: It'll be my first game back in about 4 years, so I'm fine with criticism*
Also, I'm probably going to take Uphold the Honour because Nids and Daemonhunters will eat through my power armor, and we really aren't going to be using too much scenery. So I think the 6+ invulnerable may be useful.
Maybe you could give the spearhead crusader squad a land raider to provide cover from incoming fire, it'll also give you some much needed firepower. Give the spearhead crusaders CC weapons aswell as the chaplains ability to allow re-rolls in combat can be priceless, especially against nids when every hit counts.
Add me! Let me know your forum name too! =)
Hmm... that's not a bad idea. That means I need to now go about painting my LRC. I also need to find somewhere to cut 250 points.
So yea, the game was pretty fun. It was a 5 way 600 point game (not what I was expecting but still worked out great). We played 2 games, the initial being a Capture and Hold with a point in the middle of the board, and 1 in each starting zone. Ended up being a 3 way tie at 1 a piece. The armies were Black Templar (me), Space Marines, Tyranids, Orks and Daemonhunters. The daemonhunters and nids got obliterated and didn't work out too well at such a low point total. My BT were untouched the first 2 turns, then the last 4 all other players targetted them... I held 2 objectives until the last players turn (SM) who killed my crusader squad.
Anyways, I got the 2 new players hooked. They are trying to decide what armies to collect. Unfortunately the game was too small to really use a LRC effectively so I opted to scrap that idea.
