hey guys I was wondering if when the 5th ed codex comes out are dark angels gonna be pretty strong (particularly deathwing) me and a friend were gonna split the black reach boxes like 3 of em, so was wondering if dark angels are gonna be strong still? since combat squads is given to every new marine now. Also is their a forum dedicated to dark angels around the web?
First ones: The dark angels bikes, vehicles and standard troops have all taken a kicking from the new marines codex, as the new marines can do absolutely everything they can, cvheaper, and better equipped.
What makes Dark Angels In any way competative / notable?
1) You can make a Dethwing Terminator Army - Terminators as troops. They cost more, but you can mix shooty/assaulty army, and more to the point take them as troops. Their cyclone ML and Storm Sheild aren't as good, but they can have standards and a apothecary (DA apothecary - ignore the first failed save, not feel no pain)
2) Dark Angels Dreadnaughts can be made Venerable, to allow re-rolls on damage results.
3) Minor extras: smoke Launchers are better (-2 on damage table) Ravenwing have standards & apothecaries (Although the cost for standard/apothecary and basic cost means you could just buy 3 more bikes with vanilla instead, so they lose there. Oh, and the characters are in vanilla marine's favour) chaplains and librarians are WS and BS 5, not 4 (at increased cost. DA librarian is terrible. nearly 50% more than a marine, with 2! yes, 2! powers that don't have a touch on vanilla marine powers, and most criminal: LD 9 for your tests and opposed Psychic Hoods. Really, ally a GK brother captain with hood for 81points, and he's in terminator armour with S6 to boot.)
So, if I were you I would: One of you makes a deathwing army, the other makes a standard marine army. or, both do standard marines.
Dark Angels got their toes stepped on by the new marine book. We still have Deathwing and good Chaplains, but everything else the marine book can do better and often cheaper.
DA are still a viable army, but the new marine book does what we do for less so unless you run a Deathwing or DeathRaven type army the marine book serves you better.
I'll be sticking by the Dark Angels, but I'll be using the new codex because I want to use basic marines and Mortis Dreadnoughts. If I want Deathwing or DeathRaven I'll use the DA Codex. It gives ==Me== a lot of options and it works.
For DA forums, the Bolter and Chainsword is the premier marine forum with a dedicated DA section. Also, check out the Fortress here fortressofunforgiven It's the best DA site on the web.

thanks guys yea me and my friend were gonna order 3 sets of black reach he wants orks and I was gonna get the marines. Do you think they are gonna FAQ the DA codex when the 5th ed book comes out? because it sounds like DA are pretty pointless to play (except the alt. organizations)
