hi, i just got two Questions
1) i while back (6, or so, years) i collected Dark Angels. and recently i have become interested in 40k once again. and i need help with what Codex you all recommend going with: Dark Angels Codex, Blood Angels Codex, Space Wolves Codex or the Normal Codex?
personally i'd love to go with the SW Codex, as i am planning on collecting/modelling a celtic inspired force and they'd fit right in as a Space Wolves successor chapter, but how effective are the SW on the table to now?
alternatively, i'll happily consider the BA Codex, if it is considered more effective on the battle field, or just go with the normal codex.
2) What form of army do you all recommend going with?
- Assault Orientated
- Static Fire Line
- Drop Podded
- Rhino Charge
or any other army form you could suggest...
cheers heaps in advance
Our best codex currently or in like 2 days officially is the new Marine Codex, Sw is out of date, due for a redo in Dec/Jan. BA and DA were just done recently, BA have a WD codex, which will be redone in the fture so next year probably
Just find a style of army you like, as you have to play with it not us.
thanks for the comment Pickle!
what do you think the SW Codex will be like? (i.e what changes are there likely to be? new units/rules? will it be big? better than the current SM Codex?)haha, thats kind of the exact opposite of what i want to do, because when i was younger, all i did was buy different squads at random, depending on my hearts desire. this culminated in a mottley, unbalanced army. so this time round, i'm thinking its better to be a little more focused from the out-set, so what i really wanted to ask was, what type of force should i field?Just find a style of army you like, as you have to play with it not us.
- Assaulty (rhinos? droppods? jump-packers?)
- Shooty (long-ranged? rapid-fire? razorbacks?)
- Balanced (Combat Squads? lots of tactical squads?)
also, what squads do you recommend for a 1000pt army?
thanks for the help Pickle!!
Shooty is always good in Marines, I am personally going balanced with a mech force. In 1000pts take at least two tactical squads, full size I'd say so you can combat squad. Maybe something for anti tank, maybe some predators?
yeah, i like the sound of a shooty force
but with the preds, i heard somewhere that its better to go with out the sponson lascannons, as they cost a fair bit pointswise, and can only fire when stationary. would i be better of with devs? or LSs or Attack B.s?
is there a reasonable army i could make from the AoBR and Space Marine Battle Force boxed sets? as thats what i plan on purchasing (i also have a normal Dreadnought and 5x Assault Marines).
i would be very interested in your balanced mech force, as it could serve great inspiration!
thanks heaps for the help, btw!
The SW list is a mess right now, but they're due to get redone soonish (Dec/Jan). DA/BA/BT are stick with their codices right now, and the new marine book is the sh!t as far as Codices go. That's what happens when you take the best parts from the different chapters and add other new toys on top of that.
I've always enjoyed a mechanized marine army or DP force. Lots of Rhinos, Razors, Preds, Vindies, Dreads, and LRs makes for a fun army. Alternatively, throwing everything in a Pod is also great fun and much more feasible now with the new DP model.

The new SM Codex is awesome. I still have and still play my blood angel with their white dward codex. They still rock and are excellent (but they were nerfed to some degree from the previous codex). My point is this, while the BA codex is still good and competetive, I would go with the new codex because it has so much good stuff in it. It really ROCKS!!
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
