I currently have an Imp Guard army and Im interested in starting a second army.
Are Deamonhunters as much fun to play as they look?
Are they an effective army?
Any must have units?
I too have been looking at daemonhunters recently but for a different purpose... I've been thinking of grabbing some in order to bulk up my IG forces and give them some strength.
Well I've played with them as allies in a Space marine army (a Grey Knight Captain and 5 Grey Knight Terminators with an Incinerator).
They are magnificent. My friends play mostly chaos so they hate them more than anything and having a Close combat oriented, str 6 power weapon wielding 2+ armor/5+ inv, emperors blessed unit is an apsolute must. They rip apart almost anything they can get their hands on (the newest casualty is 10 Khorne berzerkers in a single round with 1 grey knight terminator down).
As an army they are even more outnumbered than space marines and with most of their abilities being useless its even harder to field a pure grey knight army (don't know the situation with inducted imperial guard and storm troopers as I've never used them).
The must have units in my opinion are the Terminators, assasins (but the you must spend points on an Inquisitor) and as many squads of Grey knights as you can muster (troops make the biggest difference between vctory and defeat).
The fun factor - excelent when playing against chaos, having the feeling about bringing the emperors justice to the corrupt forces of chaos .
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I really struggle against Chaos Armies and if the Grey Terminators are as good as you say then I might stand a chance.
How many units of terminators would you suggest in a 2k game?
I too am an IG Commander and now looking at the DH. I doubt I'll field a pure DH army, but the models are cool, the fluff is cool, and think the DH/IG compliment each other.
I know that I am going to add a Inq Lord with a Psychic (SP) hood with retinue as a 2nd HQ choice and have been looking at Assassins and Grey Knights as well...

Daemonhunters are fun to play with because there different, not many people play them so it makes for more intresting battles, especially against Daemons.
Daemonhunters are effective and efficient killers if used properly.
Must have units are the grey knight terminators which are kick ass, if you're looking to play them without allies, you can make your army more effective against anti tank by using dreadnoughts TLLC/ML and the standard LR variant.
I might write like a ork but i fight like a poet.
Some one tell me they have ever seen a nightbringer die from a Nemesis Force Weapon.
I play both IG and GKs and Grey knights are a great compliment to an IG army.
Grey knights can fill the IG weakness of poor close combat but can also contribute to the standard tactic of shooting.
With their assault weapons, they are a little more mobile than the standard line infantry of the guard and can be manouvered to where you need them.
GKs do cost quite a few points, but this is no major when they are part of an army that is made up of cheap models. And, the power armoured variety cost the same amount as Ogryns, have the same strength (attacks) and toughness, higher WS, initiative and have power armour.
Since 5th Ed. I include two squads of PAGKs (Power Armour Grey Knights) to my IG army. This is because they are better at both taking an objective and holding an objective than my regular troop choices.
It's worth a krak!
Thanks for the advice guys I think I might invest in some terminators.
