Im begining to get bored with my cadian guard army its to original it has the standred
leman russ tanks
and many many men
i really could do with some ideas as to make my armylist more intresting and offering a more fun battle instsead of wiping the table clean of my enemy
allso can you mix diffrent types of men eg death korps and cadian
Yes you can mix different models, as much as you like.
And just a few suggestions:
The options are limitless. Try browsing the Doctrines, see if anything strikes you.

cool thanks i was thinking off makeing a commpany that has taken in diffrent gaurdsmen that have been left behand from other battles
there for useing a mixture of diffrent types
Play a battle and make a few vet squads out of the survivors.
Start a new Guard army using different troops.. Look to the real world for insperation.
Who are they? whats their back story..
Are they a mass conscript unit of teenage citizen soldiers, used in human waves.
Are they an elite crack rgt, few in number but hard as nails.
Are they suicide troops, sent ahead under the expectation to never return.
Are they batshit crazy Imperial zealots.
Are they like Paratroops or Marines, like WW1 trench stormers or French Foreign Legion, Mechanised Panzers Grenadiers, or Guerilla bands.
What size is your force.. ist it an infantry company with some armoured support? Make it interesting...., reduce your companies strength abit (the last scrap they was in was a little rough) and now theyve been amalganated with some green troops fresh from the barracks... dont even have the right equipment... no special weapons for the new lads. Pick up some new tanks... weak ones liable to explode on you or to prone to engine failure. make your captain/Major an old schooler.. no more gunlines for you push forward with the bayonet lad. Maybe its just your tactics that have gone a little stale.
Add some sniper teams.
Use your force in some unconvential situations.. beach landings, street fights, night raids where the objectives arent simply to wipe out the enemy but to rescue captives, destroy enemy supplies ect ect. see how well they do in THOSe situations and then look at how you can make you company more flexiable..
well i manly fight orks so i use allot of conscripts and leman russ battle tanks as for diffrent types odf missions that was why i was thinking of useing diffrent types to represent the models being upgraded for diffrent combate climates
as for useing things from the enemy that has been called is a vaery good idea
Have you considered Mechanizing your forces? That's a pretty big change. Play your regular men as Grenadiers if you don't have enough stormtroopers and it would be not-too-expensive.Actually, I think this is what they're going to do in the Codex revision...replace doctrines with squads (Cadian, Tallarn, Death Korps, etc.) that have specific rules built-in to the physical models. Actually actually, you may not want to make any significant changes until the revision next year anyway.can you mix diffrent types of men eg death korps and cadian

Think of a small back story for the home planet, a theme that runs through.
For example my armies are loosely based on Byzantine influenced forces. I chucked in a little Napoleonic flavour and the regiments seemed to make themselves. Perhaps write down what a trooper or two have done and mark their bases. as said above these could become the new vets.
As for using different troop types the idea of swallowing up near wiped out regiments to bulk out numbers is always good. If you do that think of making a 400 point force of the new troops and then just mixing them in in bigger games. As an example I use one of my recon force platoons as the AF element in my other armies. Having A divisional command structure has helped me swap forces around.
Starks list covers a lot of the options really. simply put lay your army out, thinkabout what they have done on the table make this into fluff and then make a few men into characters. mementos of battles or left over unforms are good. One of my armiesis going through a painting change so the story goes that they are half way through a uniform change but are stuck in the front line on low supply necessitating the use of old uniforms.
Essentially give a soldier or two a personality, create a setting and keep a mini record. Even something as simple as thinking up a name for every battle and writing this on the banner for the regiment.
Lots of ideas here especially with Starks added in
let us know what you have settled on.
Hope that helps
what about designing it after a real army, likle i was going to do my AC after the 21st Panzer Division, but i scrapped that idea.
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
i think i might use diffrent regiments to represent what i last said.
then take veterans doctrine to show that they have been fighting much longer than normal human wall of guardsmen.
and using light infantry to represent them being able to set up a forward position and with the snippers it will make it more intresting for the enemy.
as for back ground i have fought in a couple of campaigns were i had to face tyranids
and planning on useing tyranid parts (xenos-fighters) to go on the models allso its veary easy to do seeing as tyranids were my fist army i collected so i have a lot of spare bits.
Or you could say they're different companies of one regiment.
For me, I want to have a paratroop army, a heavy infantry army (all stormies), regular gun line, etc. So, I'm going to start a company for each of them, all acting under one regiment. Plus, this means there's a good reason my character command squad running the whole regiment can be in 3 different armies at once. ^^
