In my newest army list (Breaching Force in army list section) i want to build and run an 8 man vanguard unit. With the loss of an extra attack with special CC weapon types, im having trouble deciding what wepaons to take.
My question is should i run 3 LC/PowerWeapon vets or 2 powerfist vets (in addition to the sgt w/ fist)? theres only a 5 pt difference and im asking which is more effective against most unit types.
The list also has two sgts w/ powerfists in tactical squads already and champion w/ thunderhammer in honor guard.
help needed! thanks
with the amount of powerfists you already have I'd go for power weapons (allows for more attacks than the claw)
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
I agree. One powerfist is great. Two powerfists are truly glorious to behold and I LOVE to use them in pairs!!!
After that, I would take power weapons because they go at intiative and you can get the extra attack with a second close combat weapon.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Don't go too crazy, the unit is expensive enough as is. I'd take a single PF, single pair of LCs, and a relic blade on the Sgt. It's a nice mix of weaponry and not too expensive.

i dont find that the vanguard points is very steep at all base. Then with the amount of options im sinking into them im basically offering up about 60pts into wargear one way or the other.
so if i follow, a powerweapon allows for the extra attack with a pistol? but not an LC or PF. Sorry i dont have my rule book on hand.
LC and power fists require them in pairs to get the +1 attack now. So they'll have no shooting capabilities.
I'd recommend sticking to vet with PF, 1 with LC and if you want more make them powerweapons. That's my 2 cents.
My jump pack VVs have a RB on the Sergeant and 4 PWs, they're there to kill squads of stuff with good saves, not go vehicle or monster hunting. If you want then take Assault Terminators with TH and SS
LC vs PW is up to you really - that extra attack vs rerolling a failed wound is prettymuch down to luck which is more useful - if you're facing high T enemies LC is probably better.
My on foot VVs have Powerfist on the sergeant, 2 LCs and 2 PWs so they are a bit more all roundy. I have considered a TH for them though...
