Hello, I was simply wondering what the pros and cons of a Land Raider Redeemer and a Thunderfire cannon are, since I'll only be able to afford one or the other for my army (Financially, not points) in the near future.
Thanks in advance!
ive not used my thunderfire cannon in a game yet, that challange waits until sunday, but i have however used a landraider redeemer, they are simply awesome, its the first landraider in my army (so some of this may be the pure landraider aspect not the weapons fit that makes it the redeemer) i coulpled my redeemer with a set of 5 assault terminators with a chaplain in terminator armour, on the chanrge this gave me re-rolls to hit and re-rolls to wound, this allowed me to decimate most units in the first turn of combat, but the redeemer works wonders against an ork or other simmilar horde army those AP3 flamers are a treat on ork boys and the such like, and seen as there are no partial hits that a lot of boys covered by the template and the machine spirit allows youto use the flamer on another target or even the multi melta if you put one one, i used this trick, parked the raider in front of the ork boys laid waste to the mon with flamers and assault cannons and then proceeded to knock out a drednought with the pintle multi-melta, a very effective unit in my opinion, especially for delivering terminators as i dont like relying on deepstrike.
I have to agree with everything above - Landraiders just look beastly and that flamer on the redeemer is SICK!
Thunderfire is cool and all, but I feel it isn't something that I'd always want to add if its points value was suddenly available in any army. The redeemer, on the other hand, I'd be generally happy to throw in if I needed its points almost always.
best armour out of apoc.
AP 3 weapons
transport capability even for termies
optional multi melta for AT
great for removing enemies from cover
lots of points
needs to get close
can ignore cover
can slow down enemies
techmarine to increase cover/ make repairs on other vehicles
can't move and shoot
can't deal with heavy infantry
Those are pretty much the pros and cons really, your army your choice which one do you like best. Also if you can't decide take the one that looks cooler.

I really rate the Thunderfire Cannon. Reedemers are awesome also, however, so it's a tough question. Like the man says, you just have to choose which you like the best. Pick the model you think looks coolest - you'll enjoy building and painting it more.

Hmmmm. I haven't played against a thunderfire cannon yet, but i have been on the wrong end of a redeemer's flamestorm cannons. this is what i have to say about it:
guy who i was playing against parks redeemer with squad of regular termies in front of my carnifex. flamestorm cannons fire, carnifex fails save. multi-melta takes another wound off it. guy scores 2 rending hits with the assault cannon. carnifex left on 1 wound. terminators disembark and kill the carnifex with their assault cannon.
Notes: has to be close to be effective, but impressive firepower weakens enemy units to the point where passengers can deal with them easily
