I'm curious to know what you guys would field in a 40k in 40 mins match.
(<= 400 pts, no 2+ saves, no >2 wounds etc.)
DH are really expensive models, so they can't really field much.
I was thinking the following:
Inq. Storm troopers x 5 (2 plasma guns)
Mount in Rhino (pintle S
Purgation squad (4 psycannons + Justicar)
The only problem is (so far as I can tell) is that you place HS first, and I'd prefer that the purgation squad be a little further away that 18 - 24"
Maybe replace the purgation with std troop? (thus allowing for DS) - 2 psy + 2 extra GK's (ie: justicar + 6 GK's - 2 psyCannons)
We play at 500pts same conditions and no more than 25pts total in wargear. In any case I took a =][= without a retinue, a 6 man gk sqwuad with 1 psycannon and a squad of Seraphim. worked pretty well.
The store i go to has a 40k in 40min in the summer its really fun.
Dark Eldar: The Kabal Of the Black Heart: Bloody Claw division.
Black Legion: Division 666
Vampire Counts Von Castein Bloodline: w/l/t
Are u wanting to go pure DH, pure GK (prob not) or allied(not sure how this would work exactly but it might )?
I would try 2 x 5 man IST squads (with rhino) backed up by a teleporting FA GK squad, this would allow u to get in close and thena ssault with the GK, this would allow some special weapons of your choice as well
Jax, I would definitely suggest dropping the Purgation squad! That's half your points!
My own 40k in 40 Min list is very simple: 2 identical squads of GK, meltabombs on the justicars, and 1 incinerator apiece. We play both 400 and 500pt versions, so the exact size changes game to game. It's worked out well against all armies EXCEPT AP-negating forces. Anyone who loads up on plasma, melta, wychs, genestealers, etc, will tear through you.
IST's work wonders for small games, I've played a few with them as well. I took a 10 strong squad Vet with power weapon, and 2 plasma guns. Tossed in an Inquisitor with psycannon to join them, a death cult assassin, and a medium sized squad of GK with an Incinerator (love these in small-points games, you can take out 1/3 of someone's army with one shot). That one won me a few games as well.
You can make a list out of most anything in the DH army, but I'd follow these rules (just personal experience):
-No Inquisitor Lords - the required retinue can break your bank. On the same note, if you take a regular inquisitor, drop henchmen and join him with some stormtroopers instead.
-No purgation squads - too damn expensive!
-No transports - these games are usually much smaller, and paying 50+ points for something that moves you one turn then isn't used again, especially in an expensive DH army, is a waste.
-Leave the psycannons home! I'd only give one to an Inquisitor. One of these = a whole extra GK! Much more useful at this level.
-Limit wargear. I'd take Sacred Incense fighting Chaos, appropriate grenades/bombs, and maybe mastercrafting my main CC character (which sometimes ends up being a justicar).
Don't forget the value of a Justicar: S6 power weapon, multiple attacks, & wargear-capable. Minimum sized GK squads give you a LOT of attacks, a Justicar, and the firepower of a full squad of standard SM.
I think you under-estimate the power of a purgation squad my friend (unless there are ordinance weapons on the table) @ 36" off plus the shrouding ability (That's 12 S6 shots per turn - and the enemy can't shoot back most of the time.)
Since HS is placed first though, the chances of 36" range are slim, so I'll probably go for std troop with 2 PsyCannons (sorry, incinerators are just too unreliable when DS'ing - not always in full range - , and never get used if no DS - unless you have some tactics on how to effectively use these?)
Plus a rhino is handy(esp. with 2 SB's! - the idea being that it moves out in a flanking position 1st turn, giving covering fire to any troops that would try to engage the GK's. It also acts as a distraction (for those dumb enough to attack storm-troopers first)
Also, when placing first, a rhino is handy to place up front (allowing any GK's to be placed further back to take full benefit of the shrouding)
My own 40k in 40mins army is:
10 IST's plasmagun,meltagun and a vetran.
5gK's justicar and a psycannon.
I havent lost a game with this yet.
don't you have to field an ][ in order to get the assassin?
Yea, you still need an Inquisitor. The HQ rule is suspended because of 40mins rules, but that rule still applies. But simple fix: swap the IST Vet for an Elite Inq. Same cost, more wounds, same wargear options.
How 'bout this:
- CC weapon
- Bolt Pistol
- Gun Servitor: Plasma Cannon
- 4xGK (2 PSyCannons)
5 IST (2xPlasmaGuns)
5 IST (1xMeltagun) mount in
- Rhino: PMSB + smoke launchers
The idea being that the Inquisitor is placed right at the back, with the GK's directly in front of them (blocking LOS) The Gk's benefit from the shrouding, so they won't get shot up too quickly. IST mounted in RHino to go tank hunting / cover fire, and plasma IST for cover fire / diversion tactics.
Opposition will be too scared to approach GK's (being pounded by SB's and scourging will toast most armies.)
Only problem I can see are ordinance weapons.
I wonder if I would be able to DS the GK's for one match, and not for the other? That would be sweeeet
Pounded rookie Ultra-marines with this force (Don't ya just love Psy/plasma cannons!
