5th time I have had to write this post. Ugh. Well, here it is folks. I am stuck between 5 armies. One of which is sisters. They would be the only army I haven't played out of the ones I cannot choose between. However I do like the look of them, quite a bit. So, can you lot convince me to go hunt some heretics?
Well, it's up close and personal, short-range fire, so you get the best of both worlds - you get to rush in like an assault army and blast them away like a shooty army. You get a truly monstrous HQ choice, the Cannoness, who can go toe-to-toe with almost anything if properly equipped, and is cheap. You get Exorcists, one of the best artillery pieces in the game. You also get lots and lots of those fun little flamer templates.
In addition, you get an army which is one of the least-played ones, which is always cool - nobody will ever say "Oh no, not another Sisters army!" when you pull out your codex.
You also get downright awesome models, though at the cost of being rather expensive money-wise.
Nice reply. I like the sound of it
Something requested in the eldar forum, so you can say what you offer that others can't. THe other armies im considering:
The armies are:
Thanks and thanks in advance.
If I could stand to look at them, I'd play Eldar.
I think that army is the most dynamic in the game.
They don't have one model that I like.
But hey, that's why there's Vanilla anc Chocolate.
Sisters Repentia: Wow what beautiful models! Wow what terrible rules! -stjohn70
Now I have an awesome idea . If anyone has ever read Eisenhorn, I might mix my Sister's in with the 1st Gudrunites. Who, for some reason I always imagine to look like the Sewer Rats from the 5th ed book. So do Sisters with Guard inductees work? Or vice versa?
The Eldar are all very specialized and sosuch, so you'd get a lot of models, but with the Aspect Warrior and Craftworld colours all in one army, you'd also tend to get less of a unified effect, and Eldar tend to look like crap if not masterpainted. Then there's the fact that there are so many heavily specialized troop types, so you'd need a whole heap of different models, whereas a normal Sisters army runs pretty much only Cannonesses, Sisters, Seraphim, Rhinos and Exorcists. Also, Eldar are in the top three most played armies, right below the CSM and all the different marine chapters, so you'd be getting a less unique army.
Nids have a huge horde of slavering beasts, but you really need to paint them all in the same colour scheme fluffwise, which means that it can tend to go the opposite way of the disharmonic Eldar and get just a tad overly dull. While not as stellarly popular as Eldar, SM and CSM, they're still pretty wide-spread. Their armies also tend to be rather colourlessm with less "Ok, they were founded there and then by this and that for following reasons, had a great hero called such and such who did something and something else" and more "Ok, they ate these guys here, these guys here, these guys here and these guys here, and use more X than Y".
CSM are very, very popular, and are the second most likely army to get "Oh, no, not ANOTHER" reactions, after SM. In fact, they're generally considered to be just a tweak of SM with added spikes and daemons. Their main positive side is that they are quite likely the most variable army in the game. Their main negative side is that most CSM armies are too spiky and evil-blinged, which breaks up the symmetry of the models and tend to make them look less like evil lunatic monster super soldiers intent on galactic domination, and more like the result of some hot human-on-hedgehog-on-squid action.
Orks are a good choice if you're willing to pour your soul into it and paint each of your 167 Boyz in individually interesting manners. They are also good for humour, especially with their shokk attakk gunn and similar. Their main issue is that you'll have to paint 167 Boyz with their respective vehicles and other stuff, and they tend to be the most mindless faction to actualyl play. Let's face it, the main choice you have is "Do I charge with loads and loads and loads of grunts, or with just loads of stronger units?" You can also kiss any dream of heroic fluff bye-bye, since anything non-humorous is likely to be either un-Orky or boring.
All of these armies are rather common, belonging two steps below SMs and one step below CSM and Eldar on the popularity lists, and one step above IG and Necrons and two steps above Witch Hunters, Daemonhunters and Dark Eldar.
You can use Guard inductees, or you can simply take some squads of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, and maybe mount them in Chimerae. They're in the dex - you can just use Guard models and call them IG.
In fact thinking about it (I'm a bit of a rules buff, in our club rules it says "Consult your codex, rulebook or *****) (no im not giving my name away, but the asterisk is me, not a curse, anyway, after this abuse of parenthesis) I would need to heavily doctrinate my Guard. I just couldn't do Vanilla. Gah! If I was taking sisters I would probably take a Cannoness, Seraphim and Battle Sisters. In addition to my normal guard units. Would that work?
They can work if you build lists around it. Unfortunately, IG and sisters default play style is quite different, so they don't necessarily mesh.
You can take Infantry Platoons, Armoured Fist Squads, Sentinel Squadrons, Rough Rider Squads and 0-1 Leman Russ. Armoured Fists can be taken without platoons, and you need minimum two IG Troops choices to take Sentinels, Riders and/or the Russ. In the regular codex are Stormtrooper squads and Chimerae.
I use a imperial guard army with sisters taking up my objective taking force. Sisters are slightly more expensive then Grenadier Stormtroopers (a pretty common objective grabber) can dish out ALOT more pain, and take ALOT more pain, and look even cool then cadian storm trooper models (says alot!)
the single sister squad in a rhino work very well for me but im not sure how a mainly sister with some IG army would work out.
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
