While I was on the HQ section of a list I was writing in English class today, I thougth to myself "It would be awesome if my HSO could use duel Laspistols, bolt pistols, or plasma pistols."
A while later, Another thought popped into my mind. "It would be awesome if my HSO could use duel power swords."
Are either of these a possibility or is it stated in the rules somewhere that it cant be done, and if it is, where does it say it?
It says at the top of the armoury that models can't take duplicate weapons. You could take a bolt pistol and a las pistol etc, BUT the rules also state that only monstorous creatures, tanks or models with special rules can fire two ranged weapons per turn so there would be no benefit (except with plasma/bolt pistols so you don't cook yourself when on 1 wound!)
It would be cool to have a catachan officier armed with two plasmaguns. I'd call him "The Eraser"
As for 2 power weapons or dual pistols, it wouldn't do any good rulewise.
Imperial Guard: 3000 pts
Chaos Daemons: 1000 pts
meh. if you paid the points for the 2 plasma guns, i'd let you field him and shoot both in the same turn...just more chance of your officer cooking himself
Two power weapons, you say? Well, since power weapons benefit from a bonus attack with an additional CCW or pistol, I don't see why you can't use "two power weapons" fluffwise. Just treat one of his swords as a regular CCW and the other as a power weapon, since paying for and using two power weapons won't gain you any additional benefits. Modelwise, you can model two of the same sword if you want.
actually i think you can take duplicate weapons because the only way to get the extra attack with a powerfist, is to take a second powerfist, and the only way to get the extra attack with a lightling claw is to have a pair.
just a opinion, but they should simplify the rules with weapons, for example you make the number of attacks with the melee weapon and then 1 pistol shot, it would make a plasma pistol and powerfist a good combination.
Hellhounds are good tanks
Satan - "**** you Kage! And **** you Jables! I'll get you Tenacious DDDDdddddddeeeeee!!!!!!"
And lightning claws have a single and paired option as opposed to "you may take this upgrade twice." And dispite the fact that taking 2 power fists grants you an extra attack I believe that no codex has the option to take two (I may be mistaken on this, I haven't had a good look at the new marine codex) The only character I'm aware of that has 2 power fists is Marneous Calgar.
Besides who would pay an extra 50 points for 1 more attack?
As for the OP, you can model your officers any way you like, just try to make sure they have what they usually use (No pointing to a pair of lasgun guys and declaring them a lascannon team!) but making them look cool with two pistols or swords is still fine, just don't pay the points for it!

U can already get troops with 2 close combat weapons. they use the doctrines special equipment 'warrior weapons'.
Also u can any HSO would be allowed to use duel pistols if he also choose true grit
You can model 2 plasma pistols and call it a single plasma and a power weapon. I think that would make sense, he just is efficient at using the plasma pistol to actually shoot in close combat rather than pistol whip someone.
I have a marine with 2 bolt pistols because i think it looks badass. Rules wise he has a bolt pistol and close combat weapon, or sometimes a bolt pistol and power weapon, because at such close range he is able to make a lot of head shots
In a tourney it may be iffy but i'm sure most opponents would let you if you tell them what it is. In friendly games I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.
