Ok i'll make this clear first, i don't give half a God Emperor if you think scouts are garbage in the new codex, all i'm interested in are the weapons to use with them, if you wish to go off your trolley about how much trash they're not worth then kindly make your own thread, it really won't kill you....but i might.
Now on to the scouts... Basically i would like you opinion on which gun to give them, close combat is a no for scouts these days and i can't stand shotguns.
Boltguns are my favourite gun in the whole game and i have near limitless sucess with them so they would normally be my first choice, but i already have 2 tactical squads in my army (boltgun galore) and was wondering about your thoughts on snipers these days....
I looked into a 5 man squad and was sorely dissapointed by snipers, with 1 wound a turn they didn't seem worth the lack of paint i hit them with, anygood tactics or would you just advise boltguns, any tactics for scouts with boltguns appreciated as well.

depends. need to kill an avatar or tyrant? take snipers and launcher. have a hankering to reach out and touch those fire warriors where they can't touch you back? get snipers and hb. slugga mobs got you down? bolters and hb all the way.
best option of all for scouts, though, is in a 20-man crusader squad, kitted out for close combat, zealing their way across the battlefield and meatshielding for marines
I could have sworn that I read a good (ie not GW) Scout Tactica here on LO a couple of months ago...but I can't find it again
From memory (which can be pretty useless at times), it listed the 3 main types of Scouts, Support (Sniper Rifles), Assault (BP+CCW) and Tactical (Bolters); and their pros and cons, and gave advice for strategies with them...but as I said...I can't find it again.
Maybe someone else remembers it and knows where to find it.

I like taking telion in a squad of scouts with Snper rifles and a missile launcher. They do well, can take most things, and rending pinning weapons are wonderful.
Snipers w. HB and cloaks, and hunker them down in a piece of terrain to survey the battlefield. Good range throughout the whole unit, and a perfect way to deal with high toughness models. I don't take bolters because.. heck the rest of my army has plenty of them and frankly are slightly better shots, and I rather give the scouts something none of my other marines have access to. I would actually consider pistol and CCW though, just for some close in support for my assault marines, though I'd either end up using them as a speed bump (depending on the size of the unit) or a flanking force.

But just curious, why don't you think scouts are worth it in close combat? I love my 5 man bp/ccw scouts with a power weapon wielding sgt. They can take most anything in the game almost as well as marines. They'll have the same amount of attacks as assault marines but will usually only hit on 4's instead of 3-4's and then they can't take a punch quite as well, but they have really good offensive abilities.
Oh and scouts are amazing, I don't know why people wouldn't like them they counteract tac squads perfectly
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
scouts are wonderful !!!
give them CCW/BP and give the srg a power fist and flank with them (i play raven guard you see). Snipers are good ass well just give them cloaks and a rocket launcher and put them on your home obyective. Don't give them bolters with bolters there n00b marines.
I always go with Sniper Rifles.
Pinning, Rending.... these are an extremely good lock down unit.
2 Units, 1 on either side of your deployment zone.
It has been my (gaming) experience that there are not so many brave enough to venture in front of a couple of 10 Scout Squads armed with Sniper Rifles and a Missile Launcher.
a couple of squads with bolters and the land speeder storm i think is pretty cool.
Snipers as a whole are awesome, of all your wounds 1 in 3 should ignore armour so you should be golden vs med/heavy armoured troops and theyre probably the best i the game for high toughness foes like wraithlords/daemon princes.
as youve sad your not a fan of scout combat, bolters are going to work great for you because you can rapid fire each turn and tear hordes "new ones"
Id say if your gonna take scouts, more so if your taking snipers, you should always take telion. He's more then worth his pts as a unit upgrade.
Plus if you take a ML aswell he can always give his BS to the ML scout for a turn insted of shooting. so you can get a needed krak missile shot off.
