I figure it's time I got some sternguard for my army, and so I've been wondering:
How have you all gotten your sternguard?
I'm considering buying a tac squad and converting some of their bolters into combi-weps using left-over special weapons from other tac squads and using them as sternguard.
Would it be better to do it this way and get a 10-man squad right off the bat, or would it be better to buy a box of the veterans at the same price with only half the models?
well I converted 5 tactical squad marines into sternguard by giving them robes, purity seals and attaching knives on bolters and painted them so they look more "elite" in my army.
I simply used leftover bolters from my Black Templar sprues (the ones with chains), glued a few purity seals onto them, and painted them in sergeant colour schemes. :3
Iron Swords 3rd Company - We are the swords which reap the bodies of our foes.
Train of thought will be terminating at.. edible murder weapons!
I bought the boxed set, then for the other 5 I used various parts of my bitz box to convert normal marines to Sternguard.
Lots of Crux Terminatus and Mk VI shoulderpads were essential, as well as purity seals, equipment pouches and combat knives galore.
The main aspect though is the bolters - they need a scope on top (you should have plenty of these going spare), and for the mag, I used the magazines from left over Terminator Storm Bolter arms, swapped them out with the usual ones, et voila - Sternguard! I didn't bother with straps on the ones I converted, but half of the AoBR marines have them so you can use those if you want the carry straps on.
I also had a couple of Combi-Meltas left over from Captain boxed sets... that helped immensely
I plan to convert up a second squad in their entirety using the same methods.
I've converted 5 tac marines to sternguard in the method noted before. Lots of purity seals, pouches and knives. I'll proberbly buy the box set to pack them out to 10men at a later date.
For the record, i painted mine up in the veteran colours not sarge colours. I thought it right to display them as veterans considering thats what they are =)
What do the sternguard boxed sets come with? All combi weapons or all bolters or? I can't seem to understand it...
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.
Check out my half finished blog here.
Hope that helps. This box set contains five metal Space Marine Sternguard Veterans, including: three armed with boltguns, one armed with a boltgun and power fist and one with a choice of either a combi-plasma or combi-melta gun
