uhh...you're kinda out of date
who cares if they're "out of date"? Use them anyway, or adapt the current guard so that they fit.
doctrines to represent catachans (imo, anyways)
jungle fighters - self explanatory. if you have nice buddies, they'll let you call it terrain fighters and use any terrain you want. also gives you heavy flamers in all squads, along with a host of smaller bonuses, a 6+ armour save, and no lascannons.
special weapons squads - again, self explanatory. 3 flamers? yes please.
veterans - perfect for devil squads.
hardened fighters - gives you ws4.
ratlings - cause guard snipers suck. use catachan sniper models with ratling rules.
theres absolutley nothing wrong with catachan list i love it,whats not to love about a IG squad with he same WS as space marines and a vet officer that has character like stats, and they can take 3 special weapons, and if you take straken these count as troop choices and o0gryns as troop choices ............................i could go on but the list is too long.
with regards to whats the best weapons for your devil squads, its difficult to say really because depending on the circumstances either choice will be either really good or really naff,if your playing on a terrain heavy board flamers are a must.
Im not using catachans but im using the codex to make my own DW regiment,i think its going to be similar world to catachan but the very air is poisonous to humans,so to be able to fight on the world they must wear respirators, thats why im using the starshiptrooper models.
