I've got 2 tactical squads atm and after looking at a few 1500-2000 lists ..... i only see people running 2 tac squads.
I've got some spare cash i wanna spend on my army (about 750 points so far) and i wanna know if i should buy a 3rd tactical squad or something else. Will the 2 tac squads be enough for 1500-2000 point games?
For most games, you'll have to hold objectives, and this requires troops. Especially in games where there can be 3-5 objectives to hold, two tactical squads has always felt a bit light to me, even when they can be split into combat squads. For this reason, I would suggest purchasing a third troop option. A combat squad is a good bet, but if you want to save points, you could also pick up a scout squad, as they are (slightly) cheaper, and have their own advantages.
Hope this helped!
Hehe wow quick response. Scouts are also slightly cheaper cash wise, so would 2 tactical squads in rhinos and a squad of sniper scouts be sufficient troops in mid sized games for objectives and stuff?
yep, 2x Tact Squads + 2x Rhinos and a Scout Squad is good. But i personally would opt for the 3rd tact squad.
i usually take an extra Tactical Squad for every 500pts.
I go by this rule when figuring out the minimum number of Troops I should use:
Up to 1000 points, at least 2 Troops (obviously, it's mandatory).
Every 500 points after that, +1 to the minimum Troops.
So 3 Troops for 1500, 4 Troops for 2000, etc.
Typically though I go even higher than that. I use 3 Troop choices in my 1000 point list, two Tactical Squads and one Scout squad. I'll have upwards of 5-6 Troop choices, including three Tactical Squads and 2-3 Scout squads, in my 2000+ point list.
