So obviously with the point drop in the Rhino's and other space marine transport they want to make the game a little quicker as far as movement (And maybe sell more Rhino's). So I was curious, Do you mount your troops? Why/Whynot?
I am looking to build my army and I see myself getting 2x Rhino's and a Razor so I want to know what everyone does. I am thinking a command squad mounted in a razorback along with 2x mounted tac squads.
Anyways dying to hear what everyone thinks with the new codex! Post your thoughts!
I always take rhinos now. They provide nice protection to my troops inside and a way to get to objectives before my enemy. Razorbacks are also nice for their ability to lay down the law while on the move to deliver their cargo. I also take a single drop pod so it can land first turn and combat squad the sternguard inside, then melta/flame anything in site. Rhinos(transports in general) are deffinatly the way to go.
The problem with putting a hard hitting squad inside a Razorback is that you want that squad to get somewhere quick, and so you are not shooting those guns up top, instead moving 12 every time probably. And after 2 or 3 turns, it is quite possible that the A11 is not enough to keep it alive much longer. You'd have to put a lot of armor on the table to keep the Rhinos down on the target priority list. I think Razorbacks are good for small Dev squads to cover them while sitting behind terrain themselves.
You can always make the top hatches interchangeable and have a Razorback/Rhino model

I know they aren't in the topic but drop pods are the most effcient vehicle imo, you don't run the risk of it getting shot going across the board.
So would 2 Rhinos and a Razor have enough armor support with a Land Raider, Vindicator, and Predator, plus a couple shooty termies in tow? Also, is the point of a razor with a Dev squad a "just in case" type thing if they need to move quickly, and otherwise just a heavy weapons platform?
Oh wow that's a lot of armour. O.o The Landraider and Vindicator by themselves would most likely warrant most of your opponent's shooting depending on how badly it intimidates them. Which will buy your transports some time to get to where they need to be. As for the Devastator razorback.. I guess if I had the points to spare I'd consider taking one, if only for the extra heavy weapon to tote around, it's a rare day (or a city map) that I actually touch my devastators at all during a game.
Personally, I'm loving Drop Pods. Quick, no worries about being blown to poop the moment they show one inch of their open-topped hide, because everyone is already out and (hopefully) exactly where they need to be. :3 They also make for nifty makeshift cover to save your squads some casualties, or eat up that lascannon shot. Arriving piecemeal when you take more than two or three Pods can become problematic in small-ish games though. -____-;

I love Rhinos. I just played in the first heat of the UK 40k GT and I used a pair of them as my only armour. They were fantastic. They provide shelter to your squad from incoming fire and can also be used to do all sort of crazy things. They are so cheap, I think extra armour is a waste.
I use mine in three main roles.
1 - Getting troops places. People can go on and on about run but being able to move 12" every turn is great. On one of those turns you can pop smoke too...
2 - Ablative Armour. When cover is sparse I will either deploy behind a Rhino or inside it. Sure it is easily destroyed or wrecked but with their good armour save marines have more to worry about enemy fire than they do about exploding tanks...
3 - Fools errands - Rushes to contest objectives, tank shocking exercises, you name it. I have even used them as rolling shields for assault marines. In one game at the GT I pulled of a win because I was able to contest an objective with a Rhino which rushed forward in the face of a pair of Lascannons only to immobilise itself over the objective.
You can get three for a little over one hundred points. What are you waiting for?
I'm very fond of the basic razorback. Compared to a sentinel...
It's twin linked
It's got more armour
It's not opentopped
It can ram & tank shock
They get smoke & searchlight for free
Oh yes and it can transport 6 passengers.
Even if you don't use them as transports they make good fire support units. If you use vindicators or preds then take razorbacks or rhinos to split enemy antitank firepower between shooty tanks with good front armour or transports with unknown contents.
