When I looked at the new rumors on the IG codex one thought in particular struck me was that they seem to be doing away with the old normal IG infantry platoon in favor of Heavy support, forward assualt, and airborne. My main concern springs from our now obsolete daemonic rules: if they replace IG infantry platoons and Armoured fist squads with something similar but not the same name, how will we use IG as allies?
I know I oculd just be paranoid right now, but after what they did to chaos daemons to make the daemon hunters not able to hunt daemons anymore(not that we could do it very well before anyway.) Taking away IG allies isn't as ridiculus in comparison. I'm just looking for imput.
There's nothing we can do but watch and wait. It is highly unlikely that GW will FAQ/Errata any significant changes made the IG as it relates to the DH.
It seems likely that most of the names of units will be preserved. Perhaps Armoured Fist units will go away (existing pretty much as an Apocalypse formation only, perhaps), and thus limit our choices. But I doubt that infantry platoons are going anywhere. And we will just inherit whatever options those units will have.
It may mean, if the rumors floating around are true, that we could get attached tanks (like the Leman Russ) to our platoons and not use up any heavy support slots on it.
I am hopeful that the new IG dex will mean more good than ill for the DH. It may even convince me, finally, to play with IG in my DH army....
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Yes the rumors look good from what ive seen. The jist of what ive heard is it will be like the SM codexs special chars special rules but on a bigger scale (well it IS guard) so army wide drills and skills etc. Platoons look to be an army almost unto themselves, able to take practically the entire codex as "attachments" to the platoon. I include an entire platoon as my =][=s henchmen so im interested to see what i can add into there ranks.
I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand
Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
I doubt you will ever lose the ability to mix in imperial guard (didint lose the ability with the space marine codex) It fits the fluff so well.
If worse comes to worse you could just use the old rules for friendly games untill the problem is resolved by a well written FAQ
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
Don't quote me on this when the new codex comes out though because all I have heard is rumors and the release date is still a long way away.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
I'm also taking this into consideration, I have Imperial Guard army which I hardly use.
With the new rules making them better... :/
I might write like a ork but i fight like a poet.
Some one tell me they have ever seen a nightbringer die from a Nemesis Force Weapon.
I dont see them changing the name of a guard platoon, if anything the news of attachments is good for DH.Funnily enough I have actually done this, my GM died from the explosion though, but he made is points up for it ^_^Some one tell me they have ever seen a nightbringer die from a Nemesis Force Weapon.
