So I've been thinking about adding an Inquisitor to my IG army.
Just wondering if you guys would go for Witch hunter or Demon Hunter or if there's even a difference?
I belive they are the same stat wise. Now I am unsure about any equipment differences, as I don't have a deamon hunters book I do not know what items they can get for their characters. I would assume that like the stats they are similar.
Demonhunters have power armor and 'better' equipment and Witchhunters have more options I think.
I was thinking about doing this as well, using a Daemonhunter Inquisitor. I just have a few questions about it.
1. Would I still have to include the usual Guard Command squad as well, or would he be the only HQ?
2. What other DH units would I have to include, if any?
3. Would I be able to use a Daemonhost in the army?
all imperial guard armys require an HQ Command squad except for all last chancer armys
you dont need to include any other unit for an inquisitor
yes you can inclue a daemonhost, even if you only use an elite inquisitor instead of an HQ inquisitor. (i bet they make good counter charge units)
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
There are 3 main difference between the two types of inquisitors: equipment, retinue, and psychic powers. Rather than just going with one or the other based on what people say, look at your list and read the two books, and then pick the one that best suits you.
As a general reference for what to look for: If you want more firepower, daemonhunter inquisitors can get a psycannon. Witch hunter inquisitors are more survivable with chirurgeons. You won't be using any of the DH inquisitor psychic powers, but WH have a couple nice ones (like Hammer of the Witches with the influx of psykers). In the end they will both sit and shoot those heavy bolters, and maybe a plasma cannon.
Can you include Daemonhosts even if you only take an Elite Inquisitor? I thought it was limited to 1 Allied Elites choice.. or do Daemonhosts not take up a slot/ are exempt from this rule?

witchhunter's inquisitor is better at assault, daemonhunter's inquisitor is better at shooting/abilities
witchhunter's inquisitor tends to use power weapons with special abilities, daemonhunter's inquisitor has lots of powerfist/thunderhammer/daemonhammer that strike last but do damage(if they survive...)
witchunter's inquisitor can have henchmen who are actually useful(crusader, a model with a good save, a storm shield, and a power weapon, and its a lot cheaper than a close combat servitor
and those healers(churigon's i think) are amazing, they're much better than guard medic's, and are actually useful in hand to hand combat
so if you want assault, go witchhunters, if you want shooty, go daemonhunters
sometimes the psychic weapons are worth it(there are lots of psykers in 5th edition.....)

To answer the allies question, use an inquisitor lord as an HQ choice and your deamon hosts as the elites thats what i do. and seeings as how the guard have no other HQ choices it works out real nice. also difference between deamon hunters vs. witch hunters is easy. deamon hunters have more abilites/equipment to kill deamons. witch hunters have more abilites/equipment to kill psykers. thats about it, otherwise they're pretty much the same (witch hunters don't have deamon hosts though)

Thanks for the replies.
In the end I got the Daemonhunters Codex and will probably pick up Witch Hunters later for some added versatility.
Went for the Daemonhunters as my Guard army are all drop troops and wanted to keep with the theme of the entire army being able to Deep Strike. I feel Grey Knights will add a much needed punch to the force even if they're tooled for taking down Daemons.
Now it's just a case of decided what to kit my Inquisitors out with that'll make my opponents brick themselves
