Okay, I play using the Blood Angels rules. Now, the most common foe I face is the Tau. Here's an army list I've worked up for our next battle, and I would love for comments. Note at the bottom I'll have my strategy included.
Death Company Chaplain
Veteran Assault Marines
w/Sergeant, and 2 flamers
Termie Assault Squad
x6 w/ Incinerator and Brother-Captain
x10, w/ Sergeant
Missile Launcher and Plasma Gun
x10 w/ Sergeant
Flamer and Meltagun
x10 w/ Sergeant
Missile Launcher and flamer
Now, my basic strategy was for my tac squads and Chaplain to be on the board at the beginning of the game.
One tries to lay surpessing fire on his fire warriors, another moves into close combat range to take them down there, and one can be mixed between both.
The GK termies, Termies, and both Assault squads deep strike. My chaplain takes his large cadre of Death Company (Which most likely be composed of sergeants for the power weapons) and fly around the battlefield laying death down.
Now, depending on what my opponent decides on for points this can go between 2000-3000 points. If he decides on 2500 I'll take Dante.
I'm considering adding a Furioso Dreadnought or a bike squad.
Any comments on how I might do? Or what I should change?
If a tree falls in the forest, and it lands on a mime, does anyone care?
I'm not a BA-player myself, but I wouldn't recommend a Furioso against Tau. It will probably take you three turns at least just to get to him and he's unlikely to let that happen...
You don't seem to have many AP4 weapons (except for the Baal). I rekommend a few more heavy bolters and assault cannons. You could take a dreadnought with one of them instead of the Furioso, if you have on that is.
Lots 'o' 48 inch. and 36 inch. weapons.
The DS sucks because to look at two screens, you would need two eyes!!!
you might want to throw in a Whirlwind or a Vindacator
Tact is for people who give a damn. I'm not one of those people.
tanks are a no no (keep the baal though...ap 4 weapons are too useful)
jump packs are the way to go. DO NOT try to beat the tau at ranged combat...they will dominate you (not the kinky way) you while laughing at you behind your back.
assault them...this is were you can mash their little smurfy arses into puree. Get here as quick as possible (goes without saying). Deep striking units are good, and get as many jump pack troops as you can. Heavy flamers, and assault 4 weapons are useful (not heavy weapons though...if you are staying still for a turn to fire them you are a little daft)
A squad of devastators with heavy bolters can be very useful however so get one if you can (as the assault will be left up to the rest of the army). Veteran assault marines are a little too expensive to use against the tau, as they will get shot to *****...more normal assault marines may be in order
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
sigh, Sanginuary high priest should be in that army as well.. Its probably the best space marine character. Include him and ditch those terminators as they'll never reach combat and generally won't provide much more usefulness than any other squad in assault vs tau
Vs tau I use 3 jump pack squads
Im not real sure what the grey knights are there for unless they're a teleport attack squad
You're better off not deep striking your assault squads as they'll just get shot by rapid fire weapons and they might not even arrive
say they arrive on turn 3, they cant move till turn 4 so thats basically 12 inches of movement on the *4th* turn.. Vs 48 inchs for a non-deep striking squad. If you're worried about deaths, take Sanginuary high priest with an exsanginator and an iron halo
as a tau player that loses constantly against BA (and the BA player i play against actually out shoots tau! i would suggest 1 or 2 whirlwinds. yes they may blood rage but you still have to rool for it right and according to statistics the probabillity of rolling a 1 on a d6 is 0.1666666666ect. they will annhilate tau fire warriors with their ordanace (the FW will have no armor saves and the WW needs a 2+ to wound!. My BA player taks 1 or 2 and hides them behind transports (the WW needs no LOS) and my broadsides can't get a shot at them because they are hidden. A devastator squad with 3 plasma cannons will take out Fire warriors and crisis suits like hot chainsaws through wet tissue paper! and he meatwalls them with a tactical squad. I have never beaten this tactic he uses (yet <_< ).
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
He won't be able to screen his devastators with tacticals in 4th edition though, as long as you can make a leadership test.
I would still like to know what happens if you fail the test though.
Get A land raider, Drive it close and unload with a bunch of CC. You will probably loose the tank, but your CC that get in will absolutly desimate the tau horribly.
Tank rush em, or use your termies to deepstrike and give them CC weapons like sheild and hammer. should bloody them up and they can soak alot of shots. then it gives you time to get your Assault Squad and Tactical Squads closer
thunderhammers are a bit overkill against tau... and you have to hit last too. Get lightning claws instead, with one or two thunderhammers to take care of battlesuits.
