I dont know with the new rules both space marine and the 5th ed. Im not 100% certain that the wolves will still be able to handle themselves. Im hoping that im wrong but i would like to hear some feedback from the LO crowd. thanks

Well the puppies now have some of the shines from the 5th ed codex that no other specialised chapter (templars, BA, DA, etc.) get since their unit entry, if I recall right, say "refer to the Space Marine codex" or something along those lines. Best thing is look for an FAQ and check it out for yourself, but personally I don't think their competitiveness has dropped much if at all.

Space Wolves are still the best close combat specialists in power armor and they have only benefited from the new codex.
They're still hard as nails and still very competitive, from my point of view.
Due to the unique way in which SW and SM codices interact SW probably have the most powerful codex in the game at this current time.
It is like having 70% of all the advantages from the SM codex, plus all the SW advantages with virtually no disadvantages.
I played a few games with my SW recently and they still kick booty!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Cannot be said better than that. The store I play at has 40k winter leagues and fantasy during the summer. The games are over 6 weeks, with max of 4 games a week, with two weeks @ 500/1000/1500 each. As of yesterday I won the 500pt leg of this using SW with an overall 2wk record of 7-0-1, and the above phrase was said in a few different wordings a few different times.
The ONLY problem with the codex as it stands now is that there is no more "outnumber" rule so the benefit of the pups not being able to be outnumbered means nothing. Even with that that small drawback I think it is one of the better books out there atm. I just hope they keep it for the most part as it is now when they redo the codex. They just need to tweek the special rules slightly to cover the outdated ones and add the few things (vehicles, wargear abilities, etc.) you are required to hop over to the SM book for.
I shall now be devoting all of my time and resources into collecting a SW army. I've liked the models and the theme for a long time, but I thought (wrongly) that since they haven't had an update in a while, they'd be at a loss under 5th. Thanks to the Original Poster for prompting this thread!
wow it seems as if i may have offended people with my ignorance...I sincerely apologize but let me say i am very happy im so wrong. I love my boys and hope they will continue to be as good as you guys say. Thanks

Once a Marine, always a Marine.
I played my 1st 1500 pt game with Sw last week against Imperial guards. To give you an indication on whether Sw are competitive or not, my opponent took only 250 pts whereas I nearly destroyed his whole army. I will do another post with more details.
