For some odd reason I am unable to use the index link to read the tactica on assassins, so I would like to know their strengths and weaknesses?
I am mostly interested in the vindicare assassin but I would love to hear what you guys think about any of them.
personally i havent picked a favorite yet but here is what i have gathered from playing each of them
Vindicare: Is limited to a single shot a turn so for a full length game that is only six shots which isnt enough to really turn the tide of a battle. However with the ability to shoot individual models (even if they are in CC) is pretty cool. It allows you to take out that nasty power claw or thunderhammer before it can hurt your armor or character. With Sniper Rifles now rending the vindicare now has the chance to destroy a vehicle if using the turbo penetrator.
Callidus: Can pop up at any location on the field during a game. Her neural shredder attacks an enemy leadership instead of toughness. This works great against low leadership armies or very tough stupid creatures. The point of this is to pop up next to a character, "flame" them and their bodyguards. Hopefully the bodyguards get toasted then charge in for unsaveable attacks to potentially kill the character (on a good dice roll). Can't survive alot of attacks in CC so if the neural shredder didnt work too well she probably wont live very long.
Eversor: For taking on large creatures primarily. I have used one to single handedly take down a carnifex. With extra attacks on the charge they can deal massive damage, have two pistol types to choose from and even explode when killed to get those last few wounds in before saying goodbye.
Culexus: The most specialized assassin and one of the least liked. Drops the leadership of nearby units (both friend and foe) to seven unless otherwise lower. Is pretty much the anti-psyker assassin. Only used it once so cant really give you too much here. All i can recall is that the culexus cleaned out a brood lord and genestealers with a small amount of help from a nearby sisters squad.
Suffer not the heretic. That's right, I'm looking at you Astartes Librarians.
I used to have a Callidus in my list prior to 5th edition, but she lost some punch with the new rules and with TLOS her special power to move an enemy unit prior to round 1 isn't as great as it was, either. She's still kinda nice, but just not worth the points IMO. Maybe in really big lists.
Kill the mutant! Purge the unclean!
I regularly use Vindicares in my list. I use it more for fluff purposes than gaming but I can tell you a thing or two about them.
1) Don't expect miracles to be performed by them.
2) target single wound expensive models eg. space marines with plasma cannons, terminators etc.
3) use turbo penetrators on ether 2 wound characters (librarians come to mind) or lighter tanks or skimmers ( DE ravagers).
4) don't espect all your special rounds to hit because they very rarely will.
Use them to soften up a terminator unit prior to assualts or to take out devestator squads or tooled up sergeants it's what their best at.
