I am a new collector starting out very soon,
I still have no models (they are on the way in the mail as we speak) but I am designing my color schemes and the like in preperation for the fun ahead!!
I am creating my own chapter based on a planet that has stopped spinning due to massive barrages millenia ago. Ancient and wonderful technologies keep the planet liveable allowing for gravity to exist.
As the planet has stopped spinning it means one side of the planet is always shrouded in dark and snow, whilst the other side is always in the light and pot marked with volcanoes and lava.
This means the chapter has two themes with in the one chapter. This will be represented with my models. I will have two color schemes for the one chapter representing the marines and the side that they come from.
Ill be updateing this thread as often as I can to discuss new fluuff, completed models that i have painted (with photos) and even any battles that I may take part in. For now I have come up with a name that suits what i was after and with the help of a few guys on here from another thread.
Dimmidium stands for half in latin which is good as the planet my marines come from is in half. Ill be putting out alot more chapter story line once I finly get painting but so far i am liking the color schemes I have and the mix of colors will look good!!
As soon as I get a few models completed ill be osting them up here, I cant say i am a pro painter seeming I havent painted before but hopefully they will turn out all right
the attraction of masses. Other than that you've got excellent fluff there.
"Fear not and look up to the sky for salvation, for we have entered orbit."
Blood Angels 2nd Grail Guard Company
One thing about your fluff is not entirely accurate. A planet that didn't spin would actually have a day/night cycle that was exactly one year, so if Earth stopped spinning, we'd have daylight for 6 months and night for 6 months (not counting dawn and twilight)...
If you want your planet to have continual day/night sides, it's rotation should match it's day exactly (AKA one rotation per orbit). Also, keep in mind that there is a planet with a similar fluff (one of the IG Regiments. The one that goes to war in their parade uniforms.) about a perpetual night and day. May want to take a look at that fluff to see how they deal with it as well.
Don't let any of my sciencey rabble stop you from making an awesome chapter though!
I thought the Mordian Iron Guard had the exact same thing going on with them in regards to the Day/Night planet. Just some food for thought.

The moon is a good example. The "man on the moon" always faces earth. So if we were a sun, that side would always be daylight.
Also, I think I noticed one of your posts in a different thread about this thread. It mentioned something about the planet not spinning AND not orbitting. Such a planet would be sucked in towards its sun and eventually consumed. Remember that planets only maintain orbit because we have a lot of side-ways velocity.
That said, having a chapter on a doomed planet might be interesting. Or there could be powerful arcane machines that keeps it from being sucked in by the gravity of its star.
well technically theres a little too much spinning as we and ppretty much every planet is slowly moving away form the sun
Nerds! All of you! Horrible horrible nerds!
kidding of course!
I think the duality is a great idea I especially like the two color schemes;
I do have acouple curiosity questions; 1) Will the squads be segregated? and 2) Will the different sides have specific themes in their armaments and tactics? (like, will the light side provide a higher than average number of assault squads?)
You could explain it away like this, theres more than one sun. There, now no one can tell you how to do it XP lol
I like the idea alot! Kinda like how the Dark Angels have the Deathwing and the other blokes with the bikes and speeders.
Keep those ideas rolling! Maybe the vehicles are forged by the minerals from the volcanoes and they all have Extra Armor as a result! Or maybe it gives the tank hulls a certain hue, why stop at tanks, maybe the marines armor itself is a certain hue becuase of the unique craftsmanship!
Great stuff man! Keep it up!
