Now I know that most people immolators as rolling coffins and to have only one in a list would be suicidal to say the least, but at 15 points more than a rhino they are not all that expensive. I was just wondering if any of you out there run them in your lists and have them kick ass in the name of the emperor?
I know that as transporters they kinda suck...I am wondering if people have found a way to run them in a list so that they are effective...allso..please check out my post on rhino's for the new update for imperial armour HERE (Imperial armour?)...I would love to have 35 point rhino's with free smake and repair.
6 Celestians in an Immolator was a standard feature of all my lists in 4th Edition. They have gotten much harder to justify in 5th with the whole only-troops-are-scoring thing. It now doesn't show up in anything smaller than 2,000. Which is a shame, love the model.
I've only ever used Immolators to transport Dominion squads. Flamers from the tank and 4 meltas from the Dominions pack a fair punch against heavy infantry without resorting to Faith.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
Yes they are bloodu useful.
I played a first turn shot with my muti melta one in a 1500pt game and exploded a land raider. That was funny...you should of seen his face.
The twin flamers are even better they have killed multitudes of models above their points. Not to say taking the final wound off a necron lord.
I use my 2-3 top transport celestians, celestian retinues and dominions.
They can also be a good cheap distraction towards the enemy...
You may have a grotesquely large cleaver, you may have a guargaunteous fire arm BUT I have the flames of faith.
My Immolator took out 3 whole units yesterday with the heavy flamer alone. One of those units was a harlequin squad. My Canoness and retinue never even had to leave the transport.
Mongol General: Conan, what is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!
Immolators aren't bad light tanks. I think perhaps the thing to keep in mind when using light tanks is that they won't stand up to anti-tank fire. they shouldn't.
with armor the standard idea is to usually go big, or go home. esp. light armor. if you're going to use it, use a lot of it, and spam the board with a lot of targets. it's harder to pick out the biggest threat when there's a lot of threats. this idea works well against those armies that rely on one or two anti-tank options to bust big tanks.
WH are one army that can have an abundance of light tanks. The Immolator has a few interesting options.
Hflamer option is nice and cheap, coupled with Dominions as a transport, for a lot of flames.
MMelta, as anti-tank in a pinch. I've been suprised how much fire this thing will draw away from things I'd rather my opponent not shoot at (Sisters in rhinos)
HBolter, interesting option as well. I never considered this one viable until 5th ed, honestly. Give it Blessed Ammo, and all of a sudden, you've got a 36" reach through cover and touch something tank! heck, hide it DEEP in cover to get the cover benefits! Kill Ork Lootas! Kill Eldar Pathfinders! Kill Tyranid Lictors! Kill that pesky IG command squad! Got SM scouts? not any more!
put it down next to some HBolter retributors, and you've got some dakka.
I am currently bringing my old Immos out of the closet and getting the HBolter turrets out, for hosing down Orks. I don't use them in smaller games however. I find I've got plenty of flaming cover ignoring goodness with SoB squads in rhinos. But at larger points, the HBolter Immo is a handy Turbo boost deterrent. (except for SM's)
in my army i run immolator with 5 dominions with 2 meltas, a leader with plaspistol and inquisior with plaspistol as a tank hunting squad, works great
