this is an idea i've been playing around with in my head.
LASER RANGE FINDER
Any normal Infantry Squad or Armored Fist Squad or Hardened Veterans Squad, that does not have a heavy weapon squad, my create a Laser Range Finder (LRF) team for 10 points.
LRF: Range 24" Str- AP- Heavy 1
[note: this does not replace the trooper's lasgun. he may choose which weapon to fire, but may NOT fire both]
"Tag": A unit with a LRF and a *Vox Caster* may choose to target an enemy unit with ONLY the LRF (not fire any other weapon). It it does so, and hits the target, any Indirect firing Ordnance Barrage Weapons firing this turn at the enemy unit may roll 1d6 (instead of the 2d6) for scatter.
This only works if their is a Master Vox Caster in the Command Squad (but they may be in reserve) and if the Indirect firing Ordnance Barrage Weapon is within 12" of the Master Vox Caster or any other Vox Caster.
What do you think? Too powerful, too weak? Should the squad firing the LRF be allow to fire its other weapons? Should the LRF take up a Special Weapon slot instead of Heavy Weapon slot? Should the Maser Vox be manditory? Should it be "2d6 take the lowest" instead of 1d6? should the LRF *replace* the lasgun?
this would basically be for calling in Earthshaker strikes, but would also work well for Mortars. i bascially wanted a unit that made both Voxes and Mortars more useful.
thanks for any comments
Sounds nice, except I don't understand why you'd be unable to shoot at the target you're "painting". As for the 1D6 thing, maybe roll 2D6 but pick the lower value instead of the higher one?

I agree, but you should let the rest of the squd fire at a differnt target to the target being painted, effectively letting the squad shoot 2 things (1 with te finder,1 with the sqd)
2d6 pick lowest sounds best to me and if u let them shoot seperate targets make them 15pts.

well i'd probably just say that the rest of the squad should be able to shoot at the unit your painting. 40k is really moving away from squads being able to target multiple units, so you'd probably wanna stick with that theme.
and i'd probably have to make the LRF replace the lasgun in order to keep consistancy with other heavy weapons.
sounds pretty cool. basically a support for our earthshakers and the occasional mortar team. whats with the command squad being 12" away from the artillery? maybe a little higher range 18" maybe. just a thought. overall pretty cool.
i was thinking that you don't have a master vox, but any indirect weapon wishing to fire at the taged enemy must be with in 12" of a vox.
and perhaps vechiles can ignore the vox since they're probably have comms... or perhaps they can ignore *if* they have imp. comms.
This idea makes me think....
Would it be cool if a command unit has LOS on a target, and another command unit is within 4'' of an ordinance weapon, then the ordinance only scatters 1d6 when it fires at that unit.
Would represent the unit calling in fire, I watched the movie "windtalkers" the other night and there seemed to be allot of this going on. It ultimately would be a little too powerful, unless the command unit was not allowed to fire that turn or something.
Whats a shame is that ordnance barrage only scatters 1D6 when firing in any mode, i only scatters 2D6 in night fighting.

not in 4ed (and not if you use TVR).
TVR: place ordnance and roll 2d6+scatter. ordnance moves in direction that many inches. (ie a 4 and a 3 = 7 scatter)
4ed: place ordnance and roll 2d6+scatter. ordnance moves at the highest value of the two dice. (ie a 4 and a 3 = only 4 scatter)
boy it sounds just like the marker light for taubut it will be very usful
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
