Hey everybody. Im new to IG and I was fiddling around with the points but this is what I got for exactly 1500 points. Tell me what you think. . .
HQ: Junior officer, master vox and Iron Discipline, Chimera, multi-laser, heavy bolter hunter-killer missile.
TROOPS: Junior Officer, vox, Chimera, multi-laser, heavy-bolter, Iron Discipline
Platoon 1, vox, lascannon
Platoon 2, vox, lascannon
Armored Fist Platoon, Chimera, Heavy Bolter, Multi-laser, las cannon
FAST ATTACK: Hell Hound
HEAVY SUPPORT: Leman Russ, las cannon, sponson heavy bolters
Leman Russ, las cannon, sponson heavy bolters
SUPPORT SQUADS: Fire Support Squad, 3xheavy bolters
Anti-Tank Support Squad, 3xmissile launchers
I figure that Ive got lots of anti-tank in 5 las cannons and 3 missile launchers and lots of anti-infantry in the 2 battle cannons, 10 heavy bolters, 3 multi-lasers, and 3 Hell Hounds. I know that I dont have that many troops but Ive got enough to soak a little fire and I definately have the right units to make sure that my opponent doesnt have much infantry left after a few turns, if any.
I was going to hide my infantry in cover, to give them saves, and if they run I can regroup them with iron discipline. Forcing my opponent kill every last one of them to eliminate the threat.
Total. . .52 Ground Pounders and 8 Vehicles
So, what do you guys think?
It's an ok list but it's very unbalanced. You focus a lot on anti-infantry(which is fine if your playing against orks or nids) and against MEQ's and eldar you have a hard time. I would suggest changing at least your first support team into a anti-tank squad.
I also noticed that you use vox. I should first point out that Iron discipline doesn't work throught the vox line and if you want to have a better moral support then take a heroic senior officer and the close order drill doctrine. Standards held a lot too.
There's also a saying amongst the IG players that goes like this: "If you think 1 unit is enough, take 2 of them."
Imperial Guard: 3000 pts
Chaos Daemons: 1000 pts
Ask yourself what you want to do with your army. Are you building a list for tournies? A league? just for fun one off games?
Drop the sponsons on your tanks, drop the HKM. use those points to upgrade to a Heroic Senior officer and take advantage of the extra point of leadership.
First I would get a HSO for your HQ. You have to have LD to keep your men standing firm. Iron Discipline is almost a must for HQ's but if you plan to keep your squads within that command bubble ditch the vox's that will free up some points. I would have to agree with 034th, ditch those sponsons quick lol. With your standard squads within your platoons, i would ditch the lascannons and go for Heavy Bltrs. Only becuase you have stand alone AT squads. That would help free up some points, and give you the ability to maybe get some Vet's or Stormies. It all just depends really on what your trying to do.
“In the absence of orders, go find something and kill it”
Personally, I'd keep the lascannons in the two infantry squad but drop the one from the armored fist.. you're a mobile unit that has no time to set up a heavy weapon. use your missle launchers for light anti-armor and pray for heavy armor penetration but keep the two static lascannons and your battle cannons for handling heavier work. The heavy bolter suggestion isn't t at great since you already have two hellhounds for softy supression, as well as your battle cannons when they don't have a hard target to fire at or you get a nice juicy deep strike cluster you can wipe out. Also the HB leaves to much to the guard BS, which we all know is terrible even if it's LOA 50-50.
wow, such a mish mash of opinions. The reason i made the list was because I do play alot of ork/tyranid games. And now with the SM drop pod rule I'd rather have alot of templates to lay across those tightly packed units. I can understand the first comment about adding more anti tank when its needed. The HKM was there just to fill up 10 points. I do see what you all are saying though. Officers die to fast from what Ive seen. No armor and crappy toughness = a quick death. Its even worse now with Kraken Penetrator Rounds from the SM 30'' range with str4 ap4, nastiness. My SM army fields 8 missile launchers and 6 lascannons + 30 sternguard. Sternguard and drop pods is about the only list that Ive seen from the 8 SM players at my LGS. Its terrible. My Eldar army has had no luck agianst the SM lists. Oh, watch as 20 sternguard drop and fire combi-meltas into your vehicles. Even with Holo-fields the destroyed result pops ups WAY to often. . .Lame. I'm tired and drunk, Im going to sleep now. LOL
