Being new to the game, I have only 15 typical space marines, a random Terminator purchased online, and an Attack Bike. I was wondering what some of the most utilizabe pieces would be to purchase. I love the game, and am totally going to build a huge army of my own, I just don't know the best choices on which models are recomended to be bought over others. Not a very cheap hobby xD So thus, I'm looking for models that are good with offense, but still have enough defense to not be overrun instantaneously. Mostly, my eyes are on vehicles right now, because I know the least about those. Thanks!
Well if you havn't done so already, you should get a codex and spend some time writing up a bunch of army lists and posting them here to get critiqued, this will show you what to give your guys in the way of upgrades and will probably save you some oney in the long run.
Beyond that, standard tac. marines is the way to go, new players tend to overload their lists with pretty toys neglecting to build up a solid core to work from.
Agreed with Black8, and if I can add a little. Try to see if you can find someone willing to go halves on one or two assault on black reach boxed sets. These are GRET value for money and have a fair amount of marines in them (10 tactical marines, 1 commander, 5 terminators and a dreadnought). It will also give you a rulebook, dice, templates and the like. If you have a friend who is interested in playing then they would be a good candidate to go halves with and give them the orks, otherwise find an ork player wanting more of the things in that boxed set (If they already play they will likely let you keep the rulebook and the like).
Rork: In the dark future of the 41st millennium there is only friendship.
Fenrir: and magic.
Kaiser-: My Little Chaos Marine, Friendship is Heresy?
Ya, I know all of that. I have a rule-book and codex as well, it's just I just don't know which figures are good against others.
Would be good to start with the basic HQ + 2 troop choices. As you're already half way there with your space marines, it'd be advisable to pick up some sort of HQ and some more Marines like Black8 suggested.
As for what's good against what - that's a tough question to answer in one post, but generally marines are pretty decent against everything - and that's what making a list is for!
Well if your already ebay knowledgeable find one of the black reach captains, they are going for about 5.95 + PH if yoiu want a mini for cheap, but if you have cash to splash I would advise the AoBR boxed set to make use of the single terminator you purchased, or maybe the SM battle force, it gives you a rhino tank as well as a solid core of troops and some assault marines, you wouldn't have to buy any more troops after that purchase as you would have 30 tacticals and 5 scouts, thats a solid core right there.
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.
