So recently I bought a Predator, and with Christmas around the corner I wound up with a second. Both are still sealed because I want to finish painting my other models first, and so I have a question on my hands...
With the wealth of Heavy Support options to choose from, are two Predators too much? I'm wondering if I should try and return the second...
I already have a Vindicator (which I love) and a Land Raider... However, due to the LRs ability to be taken as a transpo, the second pred could be useful.
Also I am definitely magnetizing the first predator so I can use any variant of it.
Would it be good to have two magnetized predators? Or should I shy away from the second in favor of one of the many other options SMs have (mainly eyeing a Dev Squad)?
Unless you're building your army on a tight budget, and thus would need the trade-in of the Predator to get something else important, I'd go ahead and keep the second pred. You might not use it in every battle, but they definitely have their uses. Destructors are very cheap, so you could easily end up using both in a majority of your lists before you have the points to run the Land Raider. And against enemies like Nids or Orks, predators are very useful. I'd keep 'em just because I'm not too crazy about other heavy support options--most Devastator Squad load-outs are very overpriced, Land Raiders are expensive for low to medium points games, and the Thunderfire Cannon is just ugly. That would leave me Predators, Whirlwinds, or Vindicators to fill our my heavy support choices, and I'd probably lean towards at least a pred or two.

If it's an army of Gaunt-heavy 'nids or guard then fielding the Vindicator, a Predator Destructor, and either a 2nd. Predator or a Thunderfire Cannon will be a good way to fill up your heavy support options. The Vindicator is a given (I love mine too!) and a Predator Destructor can output 10 shots of varying strength and ap if it stands still (If you give it the stormbolter, and there isn't much reason not to). The choice between the Thunderfire Cannon and a 2nd Predator really comes down to what you like. From experience, the Thunderfire is absolutely brutal against horde armies, especially gaunts (Wound on a 2+, no armor or cover save you say?) and comes with a Techmarine in servo-harness. If you just don't like the look of the Thunderfire or want something with a little more durability, go with the Predator.
Speaking as a Armoured Spearhead player... NO! MORE PREDATORS MORE MORE !!!
My 2000 point army has a Land raider, 2 Predators (1 Destructor and 1 Annihilator) and a Vindicator.
The only problem i have with this army is when the silly people i play against in tournaments forget to pack in anti tank weapons and whine alot
Vehicles are certainly a lot more powerful than they used to be and Predators are one of the more diverse and powerful of the Space Marine vehicles. They're also cheap... the standard auto cannon + heavy bolter predator is 85 pts being cheaper than a land speeder with assault cannon, which makes absolutely NOOOOO sense.
Warning this user is totally insane...
Can never get too many Predators!

Am I right in thinking Predators are 2nd only to Land Raiders at handing weapon destroyed results.
Predators are awesome. Autocannon turret and heavy bolter sponsons for only 85 points?!!? How can you not take 3 of them all the time. 2 Preds, 1 Vindy, and a LR ferrying Termies around sounds like plenty of armor to ==Me==.
Keep them cheap and you'd be surprised how much armor you can fit into a 1500 point army.
Okay, so I'll keep them both lol!
Now, I still plan on magnetizing them, but out of arguments sake, does anyone show love to the Annihilator variant? It looks fine and all, until you compare the prices of the 85pt awesome spam spam death spam Destructor to the ~180ish (codex not in front of me) Hit Miss Maybe Hit Annhilator. I know they are suited for different rolls, but for an all-comers army would the Lascannons be outshone by the Destructor?
Follow-up question: Since they changed how the tank is chosen in this codex, has anyone tried the Predetor with the Autocannon and 2 Sponson Lascannons? I know it may seem like a weird option, but it saves a 1/3 of the points, and while doesn't maintain the tankbusting punch fully, can still hit light vehicles/transports pretty well and can take down strong infantry decently enough. Essentially trading one lascannon shot for 2 slightly weaker shots and a lot of points back.
Sorry the posts get so long lol
To make up for it, kittens:
The annihilator is pretty weak on a cost basis and I believe thats wholely due to the main turret. i relaly dont see why its so expensive, look at the dreadnought it gets a 15 point discount, and theirs only a 20 point difference between an albiet twinlinked autocannon and twin linked Lascannon.
The pluses, it scares people, its 15 points cheaper than you thought you'll need a lot of weapon destroyed results for it to stop blwing up those tanks. its very good on your force organastion chart for that many lascannons, only thing thats better is 4 lascannon toting devastators 3 lascannon toting devs is wors as the annihilator gets 2.22222 hits compared to devs 2.
A lot of people are either doing or considering the Autocannon main turret weapon. Its basically -2 ap -2str -45 points, althought its slight better than that as the twin linked lascannon can only ever get 1 shot.

The lascannon variant is simply too expensive when compared to other anti-tank options. Lascannons are also not as good against vehicles as Assault Cannons or meltaguns and with the increased prevalence of cover it isn't even that good for blasting MCs/heavy infantry. I can field 3 MM Attack Bikes with points to spare and they will perform much better or 2 dakka Preds and spend anti-tank points elsewhere.
It isn't a bad option, there are just a lot better ones.
