Several attempts to overwhelm the enemy has failed, we will continue to use standard Tactica Imperium procedures, however our situation is unique, and will require more men. The adeptus mechanicus reprensentatives in my general staff believe that if given permission and the blessing from the machine god and proper equipment from a nearby forge world we will be able to make altercations to our vehicles and break through the enemy's fortress, without the use of more soldiers.
Instead of discussing the usual storm troopers or vets, battlecannon or demolisher lets talk about Forge World.
Do you use any of the forge world upgrades in your list?
Why do you use it?

Vulture, Exterminator, and a Vanquisher so far....

I've just bought, and am mid-way through assembling, an Armageddon Pattern Basilisk. This will be built with all the hatches open though, and will continue to count as open topped. So why buy it at all, you ask? Firstly, because I really like the model. And secondly, because my army are Valhallans, so a vehicle that can be fully buttoned up in a snowstorm makes sense for them.
I've also bought a Trojan, which I don't intend to use in games, but which can be used for objectives, etc - because I don't believe in a company of infantry and armoured vehicles carrying everything they need for themselves. Tactics win battles, but logistics wins wars. Similarly, most of my infantry have Forgeworld backpacks.
How do you use your vanquisher?
I use Forgeworld models but currently they are only the aesthetic changes, as such I have a pair of Artemia pattern Hellhounds and a pair of Mars Alpha pattern Leman Russ.
The nice thing about the Mars Alpha hull is that I can then buy the Forgeworld Demolisher/Exterminator/Annihilator etc turrets and they will fit the model, those turrets don't fit the plastic hull well.
I like the overall feel and look of the Vanquisher, but I simply refuse to shell out the cost of a standard LRBT + 30%, to order one, so I simply convert most of my LRBT's into Vanquishers by extending the barrels and plasticarding the extension of the rear turret storage area.
although now in 5th, there pretty useless without the awesome scary Ordnance damage table
I don't actually use the Forgeworld rules, simply because most of the 40k players at our club are semi-competetive, particularly in 1v1 games. They aren't out to win the game at all costs, but it tends to be a breach of etiquette to use a unit that isn't in your codex. Personally I tend to go along with this view too. It can be fun to use Forgeworld units in some of the much larger games, but it's rare that that happens.
However I do love the models, I use a pair of Vanquishers as my normal Russes, just because they look so much nicer!
I'm planning to get a vanquisher and a laser-destroyer
Because they are nice models.
