Welcome to Librarium Online!
I hope this is not in the wrong place. O_O
I've been asked by many gamers recently, what version do I like more for Raven Guard. Do I prefer to create a Raven Guard army with the new codex, or use the old rules? Now i don't really have the old rules, and thus have this simple request.
Where can I find the Army Rules for Raven Guard like they were before the new SM 5th ed Codex? Sorry, I buy White Dwarfs, but I seemed to have missed that issue.
If this is the wrong place, please delete it here.
Thank you in advance.
Easy - the 4th edition codex. RG just used a specific combination of Traits that basically amounted to lots of nasty Assault squads with very little heavy armour (tanks).
Go talk to any longtime Marine player and see if you can buy their old codex for 5 bucks, or something.
Wait, can you play Raven Guard with anything but the 5th edition codex? I believed they were just a codex chapter basically with the addition of Shrike. Since I have both codexs is it possible to use the old one? I thought traits were tossed out?
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.
Check out my half finished blog here.
Traits were tossed out. Once the 5th ed. Codex came out, the 4th ed. codex became illegal. you technically aren't allowed to play with the old rules unless your opponent consents. otherwise they may call shenanigans on you.

Yeah, you're looking at friendly games and pick-up games where your opponent agrees to let you use the old 'Dex.
People forget that the rules are really just how GW thinks it ought to be played - you can toss your codex away and just randomly make it all up as you go along, so long as your opponent agrees. Also, no mixing old rules with new 'Dex... again, unless your opponent's cool with it.
Heck, you can go ahead and pull out 1st edition rules if they'll let you!
Having said that, for tournament and 'serious' play, forget it. That's very much a "shut up and play the latest rules" scenario, unless you've gotten very specific permission to do otherwise.
Thx guys. Makes sense. Most of the guys want to stick to tourney rules at our club. I think I'll stay with the 5th ed codex, and get used to it's rules instead. Then when tourney day comes, I should be familiar enough with the rules to play acompetative game at least. ^^
