Ok, these rumors are of course just that. However, they sure sounds good! The "Fleet Officer" sounds very interesting. Makes you wonder if there will be other types...Hi everybody,
Word on the wind this cold December morning says:
The IG Codex is slated for release in the first week of May.
There is a new HQ choice referred to as a "Fleet Officer". This fine chap gives you access to different types of orbital bombardments every turn. There are other officer "types" to select from that give other abilites including a Commissar Lord.
New Commissar Lord is available as a new HQ choice with dual models.
Plastic Command Squads; Cadians and Catachans are said to both be getting plastic command squads.
Infantry Squad Recuts; Infantry boxes are rumored to be repackaged as 2 sprues containing eight guardsmen and a single heavy weapon team in each box; similar to what was done to the Eldar Guardian kits.
Plastic Stormtroopers are on the way.
Plastic Valkyrie is on the way. This is said to be a transport option for the Stormtroopers and possibly other select squads. Kits have been visually spotted. The Valkyrie will be interesting as it is said to be a skimmer only in the codex. The idea is that flyers never exist in "straight 40k" so the Valkyrie keeps its flyer/skimmer modes as published only in Apocalypse. Price is said to be £35/US$50, and the kit is fairly large (roughly Land Raider sized)
~Wow! Standard caveats apply as always folks, but something tells me the Marines and the Greenskins are going to get a run for their money come Spring. I'm particularly intrigued by the different officers for IG armies and their special abilities. That makes me wonder if they are going to use that mechanic to introduce different things like Artillery officer, Armoured officer, or the like to give the monolithic IG army some flavor if doctrines are removed???
If the do drop IG squads to 10 + HW, then that will make starting up IG more expensive Hopefully the new plastics are more dynamic.
Valkyrie + Plastic Stormies (+ new improved rules?!) = a lot of awesome.
Well, if they do make it 10 men and a heavy weapon, I hope they drop the price to £12 and release some with special weapons for the armoured fist squads. I also hope that they make the plastic models easier to build (as well as the Necrons, both hands on the gun?! What the hell were they thinking!) Nice find any way.
Necrons-Currently building, finished by feb with any luck.
This is great news, I'm really looking forward to the Fleet Officer they mention, it fits right in with the fluff of my army and it looks like he could have some great abilities.
Good to hear a solid confirmation of the plastic Valkyrie, GW seemed to be trying to undermine the rumour for some time.
A May release is pretty much as excpected, March/April did seem a bit optimistic - at least it hasn't been booted to a summer release. Time to start touching up and finish painting my collection before any new models are released!
wow the new specialised officers sound cool!
I wonder if they will be an independant character that you can add anywhere to increase the firepower of that squad, or do these officers come with a retinue?(I hope they dont come with a retinue!!!)
because I can picture adding a commisar lord to my stormtrooper squad(after they make stormtroopers better) and have them all ride in the valkyrie to run around saving guard squads about to be overrun.

My guess would be that if any of the characters are going to have retinues it will be characters that are actually regimental senior officers like command squad equivilents rather than a character attached to the regiment like a commissar.
Personally I think we will see a senior officer special character for each of the major regiments.
So far the one character that is specifically mentioned as having a retinue is the Inquisitor Lord, but that is understandable.
Hopefully different HQs will allow for different forces, just as long as they are not special characters!
Commissar Lord you say....now that could be interesting. I bet the models alone would be worth the interest.
This is really renewed my spirits for the IG, especially with the Fleet Officer. I've got a feeling that the Guard are going to become the bane of a lot of other armies out there with the our upcoming Codex and rightly so, all should fear the might of the Imperium.

I'll start this off by saying: Alot of this is my imagination (well, the ending bit is)
Or, in fact you buy a IC - named blokes who replace your standard officers who: give a bombardment / have the stats of a veteran guardsman with a flashy hat, and comes with a retinue that can have stuff.
I'm furiously painting guardsmen again, and have been for 3 weeks (hey, if you have the bug use it - sometimes they're just too much)
I reckon i'll be fielding alot more men in the same size games. Some people call it "power creep", I look at it as "sales tactics" - they reduce the points cost for the men in the game - that armies alot more effective so people want to play it, and joe bloggs has to go out and buy MORE men for his army = increased sales.
I'd expect a squad with heavy bolter and grenade launcher at about 55-65 points (and a automatic vet sgnt)
you have your commander (fleet officer, inquisitor lord, a standard HQ like choice ok?)
He gives you bombardment.
You can have a HQ officer special character - Like gaunt, who will cost alot of points, and give everyone cameloline (Or, most definately not as that's way too powerfull, but you get the idea, right?)
There'll be a few of these - 3/4, maybe 6/8 (or a couple of pages in your dex - can't take up too much space)
Then, you'll pick your Troop "infantry junior officer."
And there'll be some special ones you can put in there.
Like a stormtrooper one, where you must take grenadiers instead of your 2-5 standard infantry squads. (I also see a death of remnant squads with the next dex)
Or a Armoured company one - Where you can take leman russes instead of your standard line squads
Or ... how can they sell their current "classic" lines... a Catchan bloke, who'll give everyone Catchan like skills, or a Tallern one... (what did they do again?? nevermind)
you get the idea.
Now, the real question is in my mind, will they - travesty of travesties - step completely away from the FOC, replacing it with a "command tree" - You can have one fast attack, heavy support and elite per Troop infantry squad? (The officer special abilities bestowed upon the line squads may apply to the extra unit's also, when applicable. E.G. Catchan hardened veterans have the catchan trait if bought as a extra for the troop squad with the catchan special leader etc etc)
Oh, and don't forget the mechanised officer, with chimera bourne troops (and some sort of benefit)
And... hope upon hope a rough rider squad
Other things i wouldn't be surprised if they were released:
Rough riders in a 5 man plastic boxed set.
Harvened vets (Similar to DA vets boxed sets, maybe 6 man) - they did say they'd never release hardened vets once upon a time, but there's no bits order service anymore. It's also a box they can put plastic Plasmaguns / meltaguns / sniper rifles into, and maybe even shotguns (hey, if we're making guesses here that's not actually that bad)
There is a bit of weight to that proposal as they're trying to step away from metal, which is what all our meltas and plasmas currently are.

Well either we are going to field more men, or the same amount of men but more "flavor" units.
If the "flavor" units are of higher quality than what we have now (wouldn't be that hard) then they might actually be *beneficial* to take. Imagine taking Pysker, priests, commissars, ogryns, stormies, and having them actually *be worth it*!!.
Brothers, I actually have hope for the future!
I wonder if a vulture would be out of the question too? Smaller model an all....
