I am a new player looking to get into playing Warhammer 40000. I have looked at all of the armies, and I have decided on the Dark Angels. I was wondering:
What painting technique for DA do you think has the best balance of easiness and attractiveness?
What is the cheapest way to begin playing the DA?
For painting you could do successive drybrushes of Dark Angels Green, Snot Green and Scorpion Green. This is the quickest way to paint the armour but it also looks quite rough.
I prefer to basecoat with DA green ( shade with black), highlight with a 2:1 ratio of Snot Green and DA green, highlight again with snot green and another highlight with goblin green. This method looks good and does not take alot of time to do.
To start an army you need your compulsory 2 troops and 1 HQ.
I'd recommend 1 box of tactical marines, a combat squad, a company master and a Dark Angels Veterans Box. This will give you two troops squads ( use the veterans as upgrades to your tactical marines) and a solid HQ choice.

The £50 battleforce is a good starting point for any marine army.
Assault on black reach is good aswell, you need to add a combat squad or a tactical squad in but you get a captain, a tactical squad, a terminator squad and a dreadnought, all for 2/3rds of the price of the battleforce, selling the orks would give you more cash to buy another tactical squad then. Personally as a starting point I love the idea of a battleforce, buy yourself a cheap hq (like a chaplain for $20 odd Aus, or even a veteran you can call a captain for now, and you can call a captain for now, then you have a balanced force with enough variety to be useful and fun. Paint them green, not just dark angels green because thats too dark, add in some lighter green like snot green to lighten it up.
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.

Black Reach is a great start for Dark Angels. Get 2 and trade the Orks out and you'll have 2 Tac Squads, 2 Dreads, 10 Termies, and 2 Captains. Pick up some more Termies and a Termie Captain and you can field them as Troops using Belial. It's a great start to a pure or mixed Deathwing.
