I don’t really play marines but I tried my brothers yesterday, so I had a question about the command squad I ran.
Here was the set up marine captain + 5 man command squad all on bikes.
Equipment was storm shields and plasma guns (cept the captain had a plas pistol)
so Essentially I had a group of 6 guys with 7str guns that rapid fire, twin linked bolters on the bike, T5, move 12 inches and 3+ saves / 3+ invunl saves and 4+ feel no pain.
The confusion came up that plas guns are two handed and I cant really use shields at the same time.
So my first question is to get the plasma gun it says I have to trade out one of my current weapons (pistol and/or combat weapon) does that mean I trade out one or the other or both to get a Plasma gun since it is a fairly bulky weapon and probably two handed to use.
My second question is to use the storm shield would that only be in combat ( or on a turn that I don’t actually shoot) meaning if I shoot would I not get the invuln save? Or maybe is it just mounted to the front of my bike...

There is no such thing as 1 or 2 handed weapons, if it says you can have the weapons you can have them, PERIOD, no penalties for having or using both weapons unless something in a profile says otherwise. With that being said, you could drive up on the bikes, Rapid Fire Plasmas, and NEVER lose the 3+ invul save from the shields.
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
Aye, you can fire your Plasma Gun as normal and still benefit from the Storm Shield.
That's a scary unit, but consider how stupidly expensive it is for a non scoring squad.
