Im starting a IG force (i think). I just have some, no ok a LOT of questions!
Well my army is going to be a small mercenary or breakout force (40k in 40 min is were i'll start).
1) What are then kreig, chetans or something like that? is it like chapters? and could you descripe them for me?
2) I have seen some IG armys were there is Space marine included. Is that just for fun or are there official rules for that? and is there any othere armys like that?
3) Is it true that IG have TONS of different units to choose from?
4) Any good ideas to fluff for my force?
-Ill post more questions later, so please check back

it's true there's quite a few options for and units of imperial guard army forces, so that's a good thing. not sure on how to point you as to fluff as that's usually something that the commander (you) should develop as you go.
am not sure what a kreig is myself, have never heard that - nor chetans so i dunno what to say on that matter
IG armies can include inquisition forces be they demonhunter (grey knight space marines) or witchhunter (sisters of battle) so that's probably how you saw the space marines in an IG army.
first off, get a codex, it'll answer alot of your questions
Death Korps of Krieg = they fight in a ruined wasteland planet and like horses and are pretty tough
Catachan = they fight in jungles and like flamers and are pretty tough.
well Catachan have their own codex (that's still legal). however, you can make a catachan-light army using the normal IG:codex.
IG has doctrines that help to customize your army, Krieg and other offical IG armies just have preset doctrine lists. but you can still play has one of those armies and use your own doctrines.
IG are very very flexable. they have to potential to go all infantry, all vechiles, small numbers (for ig) of highly trained troops, or just a crap load of big guns
hell you can even make an ig army that focuses on hand to hand combat (i wouldn't suggest it tho)
the hallmark of ig is: lots of guys, lots of gun, and big nasty tanks
imo, you best bet is to buy a box or two of plastic troops, a heavy weapon box and a chimera. that'll let you make a legal army (command squad, infantry platoon & armored fist). and just go from there.
just buy both codexs, look through em and pic what type of army u wanna do ( catachans, tallarn, cadians, valhallens etc....) and then figure out who your gonna fight mostly(SMurfs with power armor, or nids) you have to deside! then come back after you have answerd all our questions and if you feel that u need a more one on one convosation jusy PM us.

BoxANT sorta cleared this question up nicely. I'm a big fan of the catachans myself, mostly because they are all plastic and cheaper. The cadians are plastic and cheap too, but you can get loads and loads of catachans on Ebay for almost nothing.1) What are then kreig, chetans or something like that? is it like chapters? and could you descripe them for me?I know that you can have Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle (Witch Hunters) in an IG army. This might count for you seeing space marines with them, however, space marines and IG haven't really worked together since back in the days of second edition and rogue trader.2) I have seen some IG armys were there is Space marine included. Is that just for fun or are there official rules for that? and is there any othere armys like that?Yes, they have tons of units to CHOOSE from, however, a good few of these units are just crap. However, they also have some of the best units in the game. If you really want to know what a veteran IG player thinks about the units in the IG army, then check out my post titled: Imperial Guard Tactica Part 1.3) Is it true that IG have TONS of different units to choose from?Ech. Fluff. Some people really go for the fluff, but I think when the fluff gets involved, then the game starts suffering. Read the books and enjoy them. Play the game and enjoy it, but for heavens sake keep them seperated.4) Any good ideas to fluff for my force?
i lurv my army's fluff, but honestly it's kinda an internal thing - you create the story as you go, but no one really cares one way or another if your army has a story behind it. i said internal thing - well my fluff just winds up making me love my IG army more and more, it keeps me from buying some space marine models when i take a beating on the table with my guardsmen, cuz i like my guardsmen alot more than any new project i might be thinking of starting on a whim cuz a) the cadian models are frickin beautiful, and i love the looks of my army, and b ) there's a good story behind my guardsmen that i dont particularly need to share cuz it brings me enjoyment just knowing it and thinking about how it evolves.
sorry i'm ranting cuz it's laaaaaate and yeah, /rant
