I want to know how people feel about lascannons.
Do you use them?
Are they too expensive?
Do you always take them for tanks?
How do you use them?
I find them invaluable. So many people like to play 'cool' units like Terminators, tanks, overweight Carnifexes (pointswise) and the like that having a kill-anything gun helps my men sleep much better at night. My typical list has missile launchers in the line troops so that the lasguns aren't entire wasted, heavy bolters in the command squads so they aren't as high-profile targets as they might be, and lascannons everywhere else. Even with the proliferation of cover and (with Marines) invulnerable saves, they still seem worth their cost.
In Apocalypse, the lascannon is the new lasgun. My Guard don't play Apoc without having EVERY infantry heavy weapon counting as a lascan.

lascannons are superb. If u take anti-tank squads with lascannons +camo cloaks and Sharpshooters, you get a very deadly anti tank, MC, termie squad. I never leave home without at least one tri-las squad. Imo on tanks they are moot cuz u want to be shooting the cannons, but the squads are definately viable.
I know not what weapons World War 3 will be fought with. All I know is that World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.
I'll throw a lascannon in my command squad, since they don't movearound much, and on some tanks. But on other troop choises, nope, I want them as mobile as possible, so I leave the biggums outta the squads.
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28

las cannons has saved my bacon a few times. i use them on my tanks and in heavy weapon platoons. this is a good way to shoot from a far range without taking to many shots yourself. i have found that the las cannon is a waste in city fighting for a heavy weapons platoon. in infantry platoons i take a mix of missile launchers and autocannons. i also have a heavy stubber in one of my squads. i also have found to many las cannons is a waste so be careful in how many you take.

Facing a heavy weapon squad with 3 Lascannons is quite daunting. The IG player I used to play quite a bit against had that set-up and it caused a fair few problems especially combined with the Sharpshooter doctrine.
A good mix of weapons throughout the squads would probably be the best approach though.
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
I wouldn't say I hate them, but then I wouldn'y say I love them. I do take a couple in my force for taking out heavy things, but then again I don't go overboard, and do take other heavy weapons as well...
Im not a great fan of lacannons. I tend to find them too specialised and not fitting of my play style. I do however have 5 lascannon teams though that is in 450 odd men so not a high percentage of the total; then again it isnt that far behind my other heavy weapons (joint lowest with mortars atm).
My pet hate is seeing las plas, even on vets. People tend to see oooo look low ap ah the plasma matches this and forget that the lascannon's AP is rarely used, while the strength and mobility of plasma doesn't correlate with the usage of lascannons. TBH I am guilty of las and grenade launcher in squads though that is only two squads in one of my armies that is a mech army and had nowhere else for them!
All in all, a decent weapon if used for it intended purpose and in the right hands. Just mainly misunderstood as a troop killer (TBH terminators are only just in the top area but they still dont beat aiming it at a tank).
So neither love nor hate it, could do with being a tad cheaper by 5 points ish though.
PS: yes most of my russ have them on the front but thats cos I built them before the current codex years and years ago in the days before plastic heavy bolters. (they may be changed though depending on the new codex)
In my style of play, Lascannons are important anti-vehicle weapons. But I try to balance and keep between 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 ratio of anti-vehicle and anti-personel weapons. Also I think that a mobile lascannon is more letal than a stationary one, so I tend to use squadrons of sentinels for tank-hunting and load Heavy Bolters in the infantry squads.

I neither hate nor love them, I only use a few scattered about the place to add a little extra punch to the Launchers and autos
