I'm not quite sure how to go about building an Apocalypse list. I just picked up the book about a week or so ago, and am slightly confused. In the beginning of the book it tells us that there is no force organization chart at all. But once you start to read into the IG section of the book, it tell us different ways to organize our army, and different formations that we may use. Is there some general theme that we must use to organize our army, or is this just something fluffy? And must I use the formations listed in the book (Ex. if I'm fielding 3 Leman Russ battle tanks, must I use them in an Emperors Fist squad, or could I use them independet of each other?)
What you are refering to is fluff (the part on army organization) and the other parts are datasheets (the ones with point costs)
In apoc you can create an army free of most normal restrictions (like described in the apoc book). And may in addition use the datasheets.
So no you do not have to use your 3 lemans in an emperors fist squadron, but if you do you must pay the additional point cost listed in the top right corner of the datasheet.
Hope that clears it up? If not just give me a shout.
From what I've heard about Apocalypse you can field all your models. But do they still have to follow their restrictions from their codexes?
For instance, if I wanna field Heavy Weapon platoons, am I still only allowed 3 for every heavy weapon platoon officer or can I, let's say, put down 4 LC squads w/my officer? For that matter, do I even need to have HWP officer at all for my HW squads?
Also, it says you can field 1 Conscript Platoon and 1 Armored Fist squad for each Infantry platoon that u have. Would I be able to use 1 Infantry platoon, 3 conscript platoons, and 10 AF squads?
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
thus you can have 10 conscript platoons of 20-50 men without having to have the 10 normal infantry platoons. But you must follow the minimum and maximum squad sizes, and wargear options.
Did that make sense at all?
All Units must be legal... so 3 heavy weapons in one HW platoon... but you may have as many platoons as desired... you cant have 4
And as said before, the later stuff is either suggestions of organisation, or extras.... Not everyone knows how to organise an army, and 500 random models being 1 platoon is a bit daft no?
1) Grab every model you can get your hands on
2) Grab a crowbar and sledgehammer
3) Beat your figures into (legal) squads
4) Guestimate the points total
5) Start blowing stuff up
-Note: Always guess 30 minutes for set up. At least until you've played a few games and have got the feel of it. If you have to arrange 150 minis, you're not going to out bid the Marine player who's setting up 50 figs in 12 minutes. Don't hamstring yourself.
