I (and i believe many others too) have a number of regiments all based in fluff, eventhough i know i am never going to get models for them or anything like that.
So i started this thread to showcase some of my imaginery regiments!
I will be creating pictures of the homeplanets and badges of the regiments and perhaps more if it's appropriate.
Ferandisia is a planet not known for anything apart from it's timber exports, due to it's poor soil being almost completly covered in woodland. The only wood that grows on Ferandisia, however, is the grainy and easily splintering Eik-wood. Eik-wood is generally only used for flakboard and other areas where large numbers and cheapness are more important than quality.
Most of it's 250 million inhabitants live around the warmer equator and this is also where Ferandisia's few spaceports are located. The rest of the population lives in semi-permanent logging settlements both north and south of the equator. Life in the these so called Cutcamps is hard and it breeds resilient men used to working 6 days and then blowing their earning on cheap gin and the local ladies.
All timber cut is transported to central collection stations, loaded on trains and then driven down to the equator-ports. These trains are massive steamengines fully 150 metres long and hauling Eik-wood loads stacked 3 stories high and usually kilometres long. Whole families live in the areas just behind the cab of these behemoths, with trips down to the ports in some cases taking weeks.
Ferandisia raises regiments known for their survival and woodsmen abilities but not necessarily for their high-tech equipment nor training.
The Ferandisian 46th is like most other regiments from the planet made up in large part by the semi-educated and practically untrained woodsmen from the south. The 46th may be manned by the cutters but the drivers of APC's, tanks and support vehicles are driven by the trainmechanics as these are the only one's in the regiment with some modicum of engineering knowledge.
The 46th badge shows a sword (for martial prowess) set between 2 keys (for unlocking new territories) beneath a skull (the acknowledged symbol of the Imperium) and 46 (the regiments number) and ER (for Emperor Rex, a designation often used by forces raised in the south). All 4000 soldiers in the 46th where issued this badge at the founding of their regiment.
The 46th was raised to support nearby forces battling against the expansion of the Tau empire and they are now on route to the battlezones.
The 46th uniform is much like other regiments raised from Ferandisia: Grey/Green wool fatigues with a steel sloping helmet and kaki webbing and legwrappings. Officers wear a kepi with red frogging and red frogging on the lower arms of their jackets. A large amount of lumber is shipped from Ferandisia to the nearby Forgeworld of Dicalium III to be bartered for the locks and barrels of lasguns which are then shipped back to Ferandisia to be fitted with stocks made from Eik-wood.
That concludes my first bit of fluff. I got some more ideas for next week, so stay tuned!
