Is it true that Gk force weapons are different than all other force weaps that cause instant death. Or dose the fifth eddition rule book over ride our own codex.
Here you have a classic case of the-chicken-or-the-egg. Normally codex overrules basic rulebook (BR. In that case, then DH force weapons rule and will kill even those immune to Instant Death. However, on the other hand, the DH codex is old and outdated compared to new 5th ed rules. One can argue that the 5th ed rules is meant to update some of the older rules and should be followed until a newer DH codex comes out.
Most people I've talked to (who coincidentally don't play DH) say that 5th rules should trump older codex rules, the argument being a force weapon is a force weapon (no matter what army)...it should follow force rules in 5th. Then I tell them in that case our storm shields should be 3+, our assault cannons should be 4 rending shots, and our rhinos should be able to self-repair just like the other armies.
I recommend you talk with your opponent (or check with judge in tournament games) and come up with an agreement on how it works before you start play.
the way this kind of thing works is go with the most recent publication. which would be the FAQ, if theres nothing in the FAQ go with the BRB. the BRB states that units with the eternal warrior rule are immune to instant death. apparently force weapons, including NFW cause instant death so even though the DH codex is old, eternal warriors are still immune to their abilities. guess we're going to have to beat them down the old school way
When in doubt, more Bloodcrushers
Now if you were to follow all the current rules, then the DH storm shields should be 3+Inv instead of 4+, our rhinos should be cheaper than it currently is and be able to self-repair, our assault cannons should do rending damage. On the other hand, our psychic hoods would not have unlimited range and our terminator armor & thunderhammers would be more expensive. But that's not the case as none of these have been FAQ'ed. Thus if we follow what our codex says, as should be the case, then we also have to accept the fact that our NFW kicks the crap out of regular force weapons.
The BRB clearly states that RAW is the way to play the game. They don't even mention the "dice it off" mechanic that used to start off the 4th edition rules. That's gone. It's RAW all the way. The BRB even says that if you and your opponent cannot agree on a house rule, you must play the game RAW.
The BRB also states that Codex rules always override the BRB. Thus we have fantastic force weapons and thunder hammers but terrible storm shields and assault cannons.
This is the default.
However, the BRB and GW also state that you and your opponent should feel free to modify the game's rules in whatever way you desire, though with a Fair and Fun game being the goal. However, you have to agree on what those house rules are. It is perfectly fine to make all force weapons, assault cannons, storm sheilds, etc., work in exactly the same way. But you have to agree to it, is all. Otherwise, as noted above, it's RAW and Codex overruling the BRB.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
