What is GW doing for the new edition and the new SM codex?? Ok, the sneak peaks for the 40K models, on the US web site, have finally stopped being full of Sisters of Battle. ok.
And then we saw a SM scout, painted in Ultramarine fashion, with a missile launcher. I see why: there isn't one of those yet. And it looks good.
Another model also showed up: the "Ultramarine" tech-marine! And i got this weird feeling that something is starting with the Blue Boy Scouts. nevermind they guy had three or four servo arms. (sure beats walking around with three or four mindless servitors who do nothing but take bullets for you)
But now, GW has produced pictures of four Ultramarines and has labled them as "Battle for Macragge Ultramarines"!!!!! And there is nothing new with them!!! ITs bad enough that they gave the Lord of Change a hat and a new staff and packaged him as the NEW LoC, and the Keeper of Secrets got the opposite of a face lift, but don't tell me this a "special boxed set" and all it has is the normal marines.
Ok . . . done ranting . . . ready to have dialogue . . . what do y'all think???
Rip-off indeed... Though I thought about the way they are positioned... does this remins any one of 2nd ed marines... my guess is they are going to be put in the new box set with the rule book... they'll prolly put the old Blue genestealers in there too *sigh*
Tomb Kings, Marines, Eldar
No, these guys aren't the old "i can't move my arms" guys. But there isn't anything cool about them. Not even claw marks, or a guant head on a stick!!!
I think that GW should have a small, modest IG platoon in the boxed set. as for the oponents, i think a small force of eldar or orks would do nicely to boost sales in those two armies.
I never understood the marine vs. darm eldar thing. It makes you wonder why everyone likes marines!! What was it? Ten SM and a land speeder!?!?!?!? vs. what? 20 boring dark eldar. Not only does every kid start with space marines (and use SM to rate every other army) but I know why Dark Eldar players are mad about the rumor of DE going away. Who didn't give those boring warriors to your DE playing friend???? I did. a buddy of mine has over 120 warriors!!! He can never use them all in one game.
All I'm trying to say with this sub-rant is that the boxed set would have been more balanced by taking away the land speeder and adding some witches or a squad of jet bikes.
Hmm. From what I understand, the "Battle for Macragge" boxed set will contain a cut-down version of the rules and models for Marines and Tyranids. The full rule book for v4 is to be a stand-alone item.
GW's marketing strategy is to make the BfM set a starter kit with "snap together" models and simple rules that help beginners get started--they'll be playing their first game about an hour after they open the box for the first time. Then, once they have had some fun and seen all the other cool toys, they'll want to buy the "advanced" rules and expand their collection of models.
It's the same principle that drug dealers use when "you're first hit is free." Because they know the addictive power and if they can get you hooked, they'll make their money every time you come back for more.
Anyways, IMO the BfM space marine models on the GW site look a GREAT deal better than the old snap together marines from the 2nd edition box! In fact, I can't even tell they're not from the regular squad box! I think GW is probably redoing some Tyranid gaunts and maybe even some Tyranid warriors to be snap together models as well. But this is just pure speculation on my part--makes sense though.

Do you know this from experiance? Anyway to get more money...
That's not a bad marketing idea (the models, not the meth).
what do y'all think about the new scout model and the uber-tech marine???
no i have heard they are making new 'stealersthey'll prolly put the old Blue genestealers in there too *sigh*
They sure look snap together to me. The tip off is that the flamer and bolter marine are exactly the same. Gun is held at the same angle, same helmet, same everything. (Except the flamer/bolter) Granted these look a heack of allot better than the old snap marines, and I understand why GW would want the starter box to have some "lesser" miniatures to give out. If you didn’t notice allot of people would buy the main set and break it down and end up selling it for a bit more than normal. These snap models will most likely prevent that.
p.s. The dark eldar are not boring, just seriously out gunned in the starter set.
they don't look that bad
though I really like the look of the new techmarine
The new techmarine is sweet, and the new boxed set models look a bit more flavorful than the others, but they need more new models!
