Ways to claim/contest objectives with Imperial Guard
How do you do these things?
For the objectives the other side of the board, long range obliteration, followed up by 4-6 deep striking units helps - I just want one man to hang in there. (5 man remnant squads and the junior officer from the line squads).
Not to say of course that my hellhounds / demolisher won't be going forwards, and rushing at the end to contest if my infantry can't hold it.
My standard russes will contest (as would my command squad / any others nearby) any enemy held objectives in my lines.
I also really appreciate shaeffer and his gang in objective games, and like throwing them about via deep strike / deploying a heavy weapon team via infiltrate. I'm not averse to running a single scoring man around avoiding LOS, or tucking in behind a russ etc to claim a objective.

I use deepstriking infantry platoons as my main objective grabbers. They are fantastic at putting pressure on units that an opponent has kept back to hold his own objective. An added bonus is that units that are given the "hold the fort" type role in home base missions tend to not be specialised CC units, thus giving our own IG boys a slightly better chance than normal. I always use my drop infantry aggressively and armed with flamers. This really puts out the wounds for minimal points investment. The fact that you tend to end up with 20-30 bodies on an enemy home base objective is just icing on the cake.
The other main objective taking unit I use are mounted grenadiers. I tend to hold them back for a turn or two and then begin to move forward as enemy numbers begin to thin. They cant hold much without support, but in the right situation they do quite well. Armed with Plasma, they can threaten most enemy units and with free krak grenades, can even threaten light tanks or transports that might be 'safeguarding' an objective. I like to use them in concert with the above drop troops, letting the enemy become the meat in my guardsmen sandwhich!
What Guardsmen dont want to hear...
"Ok boys, time to fix bayonets!"
I'm still doing the old all-infantry all Light Infantry / drop troops with Veterans.
so I drop Special Weapon teams with Demo Charges, and if they survive, I run them towards an objective.
or I'll hold a platoon squad or two in reserve, to Drop in on an objective.
running forward with Light Infantry helps in a pinch too.
it's just the KP missions that get me.

I use chimeras and drop troops to take objectives. With a heavy flamer on the front torch the objective.drop troopers deal with the objectives far in the corner
My 200th post
Vehicles moving 12 inches at the last moment works for me nicely, have to love chimeras and hellhounds.
*New codex with cheaper chimeras cant wait*

out of curiosity has a date been confirmed for the new dex?
on topic guard have heaps of options to contest -sentinels, rough riders, tanks but for capturing your rather poned the standard guard infintry lack the staying power while grenadiers have the staying power but not the numbers
Believe in me, even if we are torn apart our feelings will unite us that is what this post is all about.
