A friend of mine plays the Space Marines (Ultramarines no chapter, nothing) and he fields all his Tactical Squads with 5 men and they contain at least one heavy weapon (sometimes two).
Someone on Eldar's forum told me :He has the 4th edition codex so I do not know if it is true. If it is, I will strongly recommend him to buy the new one since their might have other modifications. His Tactical Squad set up is illegal, he needs a full 10 man squad if he wishes to include heavy and special weapons.
Yeah, it's 4th edition alright. There are some things I like more with 4th and some I like with 5th. 4th tactical squads can take a heavy weapon and a special weapon with just 5-man squads.
It's true. With the new codex, you can't give tactical squads any other weapons than bolters (except the sergeant) at all, unless it has 10 marines. At which point, you can have one heavy and/or one assault weapon. Never two of either one.
The army list entry for tactical squads is crystal clear on this in the new codex
Exactly what I needed to know.
