Or Honour Guard, however you want to spell it
While the miniatures are nice and I do own a few (mainly for painting purposes), I never truly found a reason to ever play them, mainly because there are other things that I'd spend my points on before reaching them. Have any of you tried these guys in a game, and if so, any good/bad stories to tell of them?
I use them somewhat frequently, and I've got nothing but good to say about them. You need a safe delivery device, and I'll usually make that a LRC, but they hit like a sack of hammers if you build them right. I have a 4 man squad that goes with my Chapter Master (custom built, not the actual GW models). The Champion, and 3 Guard. I give the 3 Relic Blades, and a Chapter Banner, then the Champion a combat blade for the extra attack.
Coincidentally, my avatar is an image of one of the models with a Relic Blade.
Nights Justice Space Marines
Eldar Eth Kariel Craftworld
Spear of Kurnous - High Elf Expeditionary Army
Yes, and a lovely model it is.
Nemesis weapons make great relic blades, I plan on using them myself.
I wanted to write more...but ran out of things witty or poignant...
* "I'm Significant!" -screamed the dust speck
* "Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background."
It all depends. While they are a pricey, throw in a chapter banner and that's 4 power weapon attacks apiece, with the artificer armor save, and they also have a bolter (although you probably won't want to use it much since they've got a target painted on them that makes a terminator's look small)
Also in terms of price, remember, although they're expensive: giving a character the AA & PW alone is only 5 pts cheaper then their model which boast good attacks and leadership.
They're not for every build or every army, but last time i took some in a 2500 pt battle against my friend's ork army so i would have something that can at least pretend to stand up to his warboss & friends), along with a Librarian to Gate them across the field, and thus far am pleased with their performance.
Honour Guard have bolt pistols already so that isn't really needed, probably there cause Calgar's Guard has a marine with a combat blade and they didn't want to waste the model.then the Champion a combat blade for the extra attack.

I hear this squad rocks on bikes:
Captain w/ power weapon
3 more dudes with storm shields, 2 lightening claws
Mix up stuff to promote advantageous would allocation and for ~500 points you have a very hard unit to avoid that packs a load of powerweapons, attacks and good initiative.
Expensive, hells yeah. But 'ard!
Ah bugger. Nix on that then!
Please note the above poster is on the latter half of his bourbon ration for the evening.
