I have a question regarding cheese.
I was playing with my guard army against a Tau/SM mix. I have two, 5-man hardened vet squads equipped with 3 melta guns each. In turn three, I dropped on of the squads behind the other player's 2 crisis battles suits. I then shot, killing both of them. He immediately flung his arms in the air, running in circles, yelling, "CHEESE!".
I would like to know if using two 5-man vet squads with meltas aimed to take out heavy/tanks is considered cheese.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Honestly? No. Nothing for guard is cheese, because all the cheese in the world still doesn't make us as competitive as a modern codex.
I just find it amusing that there's enough vets to go around for all of the deep striking since they tend to get slaughtered to the man in one turn.
I agree with jh that that wasn't cheese, but regardless, i disagree and feel that some things can be considered cheese. Ultimately that was good luck for you as you didn't scatter, your shots landed and it died, not cheese.
I agree. Its kind of funny...getting "promoted" is kind of like getting the death penalty.I just find it amusing that there's enough vets to go around for all of the deep striking since they tend to get slaughtered to the man in one turn.
Well, thanks for the answers/back up to my non-cheese claim.
And if he had the ability to kill your 5 man squad before it landed (such as with mystics for DH) then the cheese is on the other side of the fence.
This forum loves the phrase cheese I never hear it in actual games. people use words such as "lame, retarded, or gay" Anyway you look at it though everything has something that can kill it and when that happens or someone gets lucky with the dice it is immdiately discredited as being unbalanced.
Or as all gamers are aware... "Buff me, nerf those who beat me, those I beat are fine L2P"
The army of JSJ in 4th calls 5 Drop Vets cheese? Why because they countered his purile tactics?
Did you disclose that they were deep striking beforehand?
Okay, okay, my Grr-reaction has abated. Stepping back, it's a bit insane that we can get these cheap throwaways that can seriously shatter an enemy's main forces. Drop a pair of Special Weapon Squads with Demo Charges and these guys too and watch your enemy fret as his carefully manicured deployment zone gets churned into ash and death with just a few lucky dice rolls.
If he knew about them beforehand then he should've made provisions and changed his game plan.
But to be fair, these 75 point Melta Drop Vets can ensure the death of one high value target unless you scatter greatly.
Tell him to practice crying cheese over the IG though. The new stuff looks amazing.
It's only after you have nothing left to give that they consider you too valuable to throw away.
As for the OP... No. Melta Vets are for popping hard targets. If you're not popping hard targets with melta vets then you're not using melta vets correctly. Your opponent doesn't know what he's talking about, or is a sore loser, or both.
However, don't be a sore winner either. Just hold your tongue or catch him in private and tell him how you feel about how he behaved. If you call him out in front of everyone and try to make him feel small then you're no better.
Tau player: "Oh no! Someone used the tools of their army to outmanouver me! Thats not fair! They are supposed to slowly walk at me while I shoot them, they aren't supposed to shoot ME! How dare they get around JSJ! CHEESE!!"
Moral of the story: Do not play players that expect you to lie flat and let them win for them.
I deal with deepstriking Elite Monats with twin-linked flamers every time I play a certain Tau player in our group. I wonder if your opponent would consider that to be chedderlike... How about 3 bassies? Or how about a Monat with fusion gun deepstriking to kill my bassies?
Bah, some folks can't stand deepstiking at all. It is a shock to the system when someone reaches for their reserves, rolls a hit on scatter and then dismembers your formerly "safe" firebase. I hate having it happen to me, but I love doing it. All part of the game.

I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
