Apologies if this has been asked before but does it use the same profile as the Smurf's Assault Cannon? Received wisdom and various errata sources suggest they're the same weapon, yet in the DH Codex and in the back of the new rulebook the Inquisition entry for Assault Cannon still uses the old profile whereas the Smurf one has the extra attack and Rending. I haven't played for a while and last time I did everyone just sort of accepted my Dread's AC being the same as the Smurf one, but that was just after they changed the weapon's profile so both Codexes were the same and the only official word on the matter came in the form of stuff published on the net. Now there's a disparity in the official printed material I'm not sure where my Assault Cannon stands.
Anyone know anything definitive about this?
The DH codex is old, this will probably get updated next refresh.
It's also printed in the back of the big 5th Edition rulebook though, in the unit summary pages right at the end. The Smurf AC has the new profile whereas the Forces Of The Imperium (i.e the Inquisition) AC profile still has the old stats...
Why GW has stubbornly refused to address this issue remains a mystery.
If you're playing RAW, you have to use the cruddy Heavy 3 statline.
But almost everyone will let you use the modern stats (Heavy 4, Rending) if you ask.
This is just one of several RAW quirks in the DH codex. There's an excellent summary of them on another web forum.
If you can get past the negotiation stage with your opponents, and are up front about all this, you shouldn't have any trouble getting your games on.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

According to that thread, if I'm reading it right, the French DH Codex has the updated Assault Cannon profile. Maybe if I green-stuff a beret for my Dread and call him Jean-Claude they'll let me use the good stats without having to ask :-o
"What do you mean le Cannon d'Assault 'as not ze Rending?? Checkez-vous Le Codex!"
Yep, in France GK assault cannons are better.
Seriously though, I've found that the AC nerf helps balance our "bonuses." It takes a bit of the edge off after I've moved my LRC 12" and laid into my opponent's troops with my hurricane bolters. Then I pick up just three dice for my PotMS assault cannon shots. To be honest, I'll take that trade any day.
does the gk land raiders get the power of the machine spirit? Though that was a smurf only as well?
Also, if your land raider moved 12" then you wont be shooting the hurricanes (they are defensive, but unless it is a fast vehicle, then you can only fire them after moving up to 6")
To be honest I'm not overly bothered if we get the good AC profile or not; I'd just really like to know, definitively, one way or the other, especially since it's an issue that's been rearing it's head since the profile was updated 2 or 3 years ago. Ambiguity in wargames rules is never a good thing >_<
