I'm going to field a ten-man scout squad led by Telion:
10 camo cloaks
3 sniper rifles
1 missile launcher
What should I arm the remaining 5 scouts with?
bolters? shotguns? ccw/bp? more snipers? or a mix of the four?
I was thinking mostly snipers with a couple of shotguns for close range defence. Let me know what you think.
Personally I think you should go with more Snipers, seeing as Telion is meant to support a long-range squad as it is. Shotguns, CCWs and Bolters will rob you of the Scout's role as extreme-range support. With correct placement it should be unlikely that your opponent will get into close combat with the Scouts, and if you think he will try, you could always keep another, CCW-armed Scout squad nearby. It's cheap and keeps their backs clear.
Sniper Rifles. They will get pistols also, as the above poster mentioned. Stay with ranged support, if your opponent commits men to advancing on them, that's less people hitting your main force. I typically use Telion and a Scout ML, however there is merrit in using Telions ability with the heavy bolter and its special rounds. I just happen to find that the near sure *hit* of a krak missle against a Trukk that needs stopping, is just too usefull to pass up.
Also, remember that Telion comes with Stealth base in his profile, which according to the BBB "increases the unit's cover save by +1." So, if you bring Telion, you don't need to pay the extra points for Camo Cloaks. It's almost a bargain with a ten man squad, effectively halving Telion's cost.
I use mine with:
10 Scouts: Sniper Rifles, Heavy Bolter, Telion
Sit them in a reinforced building and just know that you're going to keep that objective all game.
I always assumed Telion's +1 cover improved the +1 cover that Scouts in Camo cloaks have, sort of like Eldar Pathfinders (upgraded Rangers).
A 2+ cover save just by sitting behind a chest high wall is always amusing.
Cheers guys I'll definitely go with more snipers.
On the subject of telion's stealth ability, until it gets FAQ'd by GW I am inclined to pay for the cloaks simply to prevent disputes with opponents as it's such a divisive subject. I wish the rule was more explicit.
You're right. I just checked up on the rules again, I don't usually field Scouts so I'm not entirely up to speed on their rules.
But hey, it's your points, spend them how you want.
