So, with IG getting an update this year, how do you think it will affect the allies rules? From what I've read about the new codex, it seems like many of the units that we were able to ally into our army are significantly being changed.
Do you think that we'll get an FAQ clarifying what we can and can't take as allies, or are we just screwed and won't be able to take any IG because of the changes?
Did they do something like that for when Space Marines came out?
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
I have a sneaky feeling that GW will not even mention the daemon hunter list when the guard codex is redone. If this is so and they haven't changed the names of various units then I think we can still induct some guard.
It is rumoured that armoured fist squads will be replaced with an option to add chimeras to a platoon and so we may be unable to take them. If we can still bring in platoons and those platoons can have other units attached we may be able to bring in more than we thought. Attached heavy weapon squads or sentinel units are rumoured to be available to some platoons.

I can't wait. My army consists more of an IG army with DH allies. Now I'm gonna get lots of tanks, more troops, and some grey knights/GKT's to protect them up close from all the CC baddies. Ohhhh yeahhhhhhhhhh....
I agree with Mad Cat. GW is almost certainly not going to mention the DH nor update our FAQ. They didn't do it when the new Marines codex -- either new version! -- was released, so we should have no expectation of them doing it when the IG gets a new codex, either. This may mean that some named units in our codex won't be available if they no longer exist in the new IG rules.
If you want to be playing an IG-DH army, it'll probably behoove you to build it off of IG as the base with allied DH. This shouldn't be a problem -- and is actually the better way to do things anyway -- unless you're really and truly fond of GK dreadnoughts and land raiders.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

A nice bit of common sense would probably be in order.
A quick look at the "By the Authority of the Immortal Emperor of Mankind..." box and
Guard Infantry Platoons - No Change
Armoured Fist squad - Might have a change in name (doubtful) but really, a squad of guardsmen in a chimera. I wouldnt have thought much would change there
Sentinels/ Rough Riders - No change
Leman Russ MBT -Alas, basic russ only I would have to assume - since it doesnt mention any of the Leman Russ variants that are in the Codex (Demolisher, or Exterminator and Vanquisher depending which Guard codex was in use at the time of release).
IST's might have the same trouble as Assault Cannon do now - hellguns look to be becoming ap3, and thats a slightly bigger difference than an extra shot and rending...
Of course, if you want the allies that bad, take an actual IG army and have your Inquisitor and/or Grey Knights as the ally.

Meh is all I'm going to say now. Its no use worrying and speculating about the guard codex until it comes out in my opinion. But by then there will probably be a tactica made for it. Oh well....
If you haven't figured out not many rumors get me going.

The only thing I expect to change, is maybe points, but that's it.
For the rest, I think they will be practically the same in statistics.
